Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • Job Summary:The Manufacturing Engineer has responsibility of day-to-day engineering duties on the plant floor to support production of high pressure gas cylinders.Primary role is to lead cost savings efforts, identifying new processes, equipment, or equipment improvements that will increase throughput, reduce manufacturing costs, and improve repeatable quality. Must track and justify savings as criteria for annual performance review. Position reports to Director of Operations. This role will work closely with Production, Quality, and Maintenance.
    Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
  • Develops, evaluates, and drives improvement in methods and procedures to reduce cycle time, material consumption, scrap, and extra processing steps used in the manufacture of thin walled, steel pressure vessels while considering cost, quality, safety, delivery, and production capabilities.
  • Recommend, justify, and implement tooling and/or capital equipment projects that improve productivity, process repeatability/reliability and safety.
  • Work to resolve daily production/quality issues driving to root cause and resolution. Become subject matter expert in processes, methods, and requirements for heat treat, weld, and hot spinning operations.
  • Provides technical direction on subject matter to support functions, including QA and Production personnel. Facilitates QA and Production in determining the root cause and corrective action of non-conforming product as related to pressing, heat treat, welding, and hot spinning operations.
  • Manages and coordinates capital expense projects within the department.
  • Designs fixtures and other devices to hold, manipulate, or support thin-walled steel shell vessels used in the heat treating, welding, or hot spinning processes.
  • Creates engineering prints in SolidWorks and AutoCAD formats.
  • Creates and maintains accurate documentation of drawings, design concepts, process sheets, and procedures in accordance with the Norris Quality Management System and ISO 9001.
  • Provides support to QA and Fabrication departments to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems.
    Communicates with industry representatives and/or suppliers on process matters.

Qualifications
  • Education and Work Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering required, Mechanical preferred
  • Solidworks and/or AutoCAD
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Manufacturing/Process Engineer, with steel manufacturing or heavy industrial experience a plus
  • Lean manufacturing concepts, including Kaizen improvement process
  • Capital project management skills a plus.
  • Must be comfortable working on the floor 50% of the time
