Job description

Job Summary:

The STEM Programs Coordinator is a dynamic, full-time role dedicated to advancing the Greensboro Science Center’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) initiatives. The coordinator develops high-impact curriculum with support from the VP of Education and the Community Programs Manager to provide a program for K-8 audiences that focuses on engineering, physical sciences, technology and robotics. The Coordinator serves as the primary lead for the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) program, manages year-round STEM workshops, and provides critical leadership for summer camp operations.

The STEM Programs Coordinator is a teaching position, but they also mentor new educators/coaches, maintain all robotics equipment and computers, plan tournaments, and oversee the Young Adult Mentor teen volunteers. This person is ideally familiar with equipment and programming for LEGO robotics and be willing to explore new options as technology changes. This person must love working with kids, be able to interface with students and parents, and be excited about science and technology. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for teaching, have a strong interest in science, be adept at creating imaginative science learning opportunities, and enjoy working closely with people of all ages. Candidates should also be well-organized, attentive to details, comfortable speaking to groups, and have a positive outgoing demeanor. Candidates must have excellent communication skills with the public and great interpersonal skills.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position (M-F), with a shift to a Tuesday - Saturday schedule seasonally in the Fall. Classes take place during the day, after school, and weekends. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in formal or informal education with K-8 audiences is highly desirable. 
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, basic coding and LEGO Robotics platforms is preferred. 
  • Candidate must have strong organizational kills, public speaking ability and a passion for educating and mentoring youth. 


 

Salary range: $34,000 - $36,000. This position is eligible for health, vision and dental coverage, enrollment in a 403(b) retirement plan and paid leave.
