Job description

A warm and professional family relocating from the United Kingdom to Miami Beach is seeking an experienced, educated, full-time, live-out Governess who is a native Russian speaker to support the academic development and daily routines of their two children, ages 9 and 6, who attend Fisher Island Day School.
This is not a traditional nanny position. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background and previous tutoring or teaching experience. The family is seeking someone who can foster a love of learning, encourage curiosity and independence, while providing attentive care, guidance, and structure throughout the children's day. The successful candidate will play an integral role in supporting the children's academic progress while creating a positive, engaging, and nurturing environment.
Schedule: The schedule is Monday through Saturday on a split shift, with morning hours from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and afternoon/evening hours from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This schedule provides coverage during the family's busiest times before and after school.
Position Responsibilities
  • Assist the children with their morning educational studies and school preparation (the family prefers light homework in the evenings (~15 minutes) with the remaining homework in the morning (~45 minutes).
  • Supervising the children's self-preparation for the school day ensuring that breakfast is eaten, teeth brushed, face washed, school uniform correct, etc.
  • Prepare a systematic and comprehensive Russian language program for the children potentially involving Saturday school. Tutor the children in Russian and encourage language development.
  • Provide homework assistance and ongoing academic support.
  • Foster a love of learning through engaging, age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Support the children's emotional, social, and intellectual development.
  • Supervise after-school routines and activities.
  • In coordination with the parents' ensure the children have nutritious meals and snacks.
  • Assist with the children's evening routine, including preparing for the next school day.
  • Usually the parents will dine alone with the children and handle the bedtime routines.
  • Coordinate educational activities, reading, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Maintain open communication with the parents regarding the children's academic progress, development, and daily activities.
  • Create a structured, nurturing, and educational environment that promotes confidence and independence.
  • Accompany the family on domestic and international travel as required.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
  • Native Russian fluency.
  • Strong English communication skills.
  • Previous experience as a Governess, Teacher, Tutor, or Educator.
  • Experience working with school-aged children.
  • Good IT knowledge and use.
  • A strong educational background.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
