Job description

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

McCarthy Concrete, Inc. is seeking an experienced Government Concrete Estimator to support and expand our growing portfolio of Federal and Government construction projects nationwide. This position will focus heavily on Department of Defense (DoD), USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, DHS and other government concrete construction opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience estimating complex cast-in-place concrete, structural concrete, site concrete, tilt-up, civil, and heavy concrete projects for federal agencies and large general contractors. This is a national position requiring full-time travel as needed to attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, project walkthroughs, client meetings, and support operations throughout the United States.

This individual will become a key part of McCarthy Concrete’s leadership and estimating team while helping drive strategic growth within the federal construction market.


YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

  • Research, identify, and qualify federal and government bidding opportunities nationwide.
  • Review plans, specifications, amendments, and contract documents thoroughly.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs, conceptual budgets, and hard bids.
  • Develop complete and accurate estimates including labor, materials, equipment, production rates, subcontractors, logistics, and risk analysis.
  • Coordinate directly with general contractors, government agencies, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project interviews nationwide.
  • Assist in developing project schedules, staffing plans, and construction sequencing.
  • Participate in bid reviews, project handoff meetings, and strategic planning discussions.
  • Support contract negotiations and value engineering efforts when required.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with national builders, government agencies, and industry partners.
  • Assist with proposal preparation and government compliance requirements.
  • Support ongoing project teams with budgeting, change pricing, and cost analysis as needed.


WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:

  • Minimum of 10 years of estimating experience in commercial concrete or heavy civil construction.
  • Previous experience with Federal, DoD, USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, or other government projects strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of concrete construction means and methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, specifications, and government contract documents.
  • Experience with conceptual estimating, hard bidding, and negotiated work.
  • Strong computer skills related to estimating, scheduling, and project management software.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple pursuits simultaneously.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Must be willing and able to travel full-time nationwide.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
