Position Overview

Morrison Counseling Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) to join our team as a Full-Time Geriatric Mental Health Counselor. This role is primarily focused on providing comprehensive mental health support to elderly clients, specifically within our remote Geriatric Care Clinic, serving the Syracuse, New York community.

Work Environment

This role offers the flexibility of a remote work setting, allowing you to engage with clients from the comfort of your home while still being connected to a vibrant team of mental health professionals. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, ensuring a structured work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough mental health assessments for elderly clients, identifying individual care needs and creating tailored treatment plans.
  • Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions designed to help seniors navigate emotional hurdles related to aging, loss, and life changes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and execute comprehensive care plans that address both physical and mental health requirements.
  • Educate families and facility staff on effective strategies to promote emotional well-being and improve the quality of life for elderly residents.
  • Provide grief and loss counseling to clients and their families during challenging end-of-life transitions.
  • Employ evidence-based interventions and cognitive stimulation programs to enhance mental acuity and promote resilience among older adults.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role specifically focuses on the geriatric population, encompassing clients facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, grief, and adjustment disorders. Our clients often experience significant life changes and require compassionate support tailored to their unique backgrounds and circumstances.

Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) credential.
  • A minimum of 4 years of recent experience in geriatric counseling and providing mental health support.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in evidence-based counseling strategies applicable to elderly clients.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective interactions with seniors and their families.
  • Empathy and cultural sensitivity to support diverse populations within the aging community.

Preferred Experience

Compensation and Benefits
