Job description

The Inter-Island Ferry Authority (IFA) is seeking a qualified Master to safely command and operate IFA vessels in port and underway.

The Master has overall responsibility for the safe navigation, operation, security, and regulatory compliance of the assigned vessel. While on duty, the Master exercises full command authority over all individuals aboard the vessel, including crew members, passengers, off-duty IFA employees, contractors, and galley personnel.

The Master also serves as the vessel's Complaint Resolution Official (CRO) under 49 CFR Part 39 and is responsible for ensuring passengers with disabilities receive appropriate assistance and accommodations. All vessel activities must be conducted in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations, IFA policies, and Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.



Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety and security of passengers, crew, and vessel.
  • Operate the vessel in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Execute prudent maneuvering, docking, and undocking of the vessel.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all vessel spaces.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and administrative records
  • Provide visible leadership through announcements, guest interactions, and crew interactions.


Work Schedule

  • Year-round schedule, four days on, four days off.
  • This is a full-time exempt position, 12 hours shifts.
