Job description

Job Description

This is an introductory level position on blast crew. The incumbent will participate in laying out supplies on the shot patterns; load and tie-in blast holes, assist in coordinating the shot, following State, MSHA, and Mine SOP for fragmentation of material to be removed by production equipment according to the mine plan while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values. 

This position is based out of Round Mountain, NV. The schedule is Monday - Thursday, 4X10-hour day shifts. 

Job Responsibilities

Safety consciousness in all aspects if blasting. 

Ability to work with minimal supervision. 

Proper walk-around and completion of checklist along with communication of needed repairs to Senior Blaster or D&B Foreman. 

Receptive to training guidelines. 

Must be proficient in the following: 

Measuring blast holes. 

General handling of explosives. 

Layout of supplies and pattern set-up(as assigned). 

Down lining. 

Tie-in of the shot. 

Proper road guarding procedures. 

Shooting the blast. 

Record Keeping 

Investigation for Employee Possessor of Explosives. 

Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.  

Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management. 

Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance. 

Works without risk or harm to self and others.  

Punctuality and regular attendance required. 

Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor. 

Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.

Education and Experience

BATFE, MSHA, State and RMGC rules and regulations, must be read, comprehended, and followed. 

The incumbent must pass Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) background.  

Solid math and reading skills. 

Must have knowledge of pit layout, and be trained to drive in the pit (full access) . 

Driving blasting support vehicles. 

Understand basic blasting theory. 

Knowledge and practice of loading procedures. 

Must have knowledge of pit layout, and be trained to drive in the pit. 

Must possess safety consciousness and awareness in all areas. 

Must be receptive to training guidelines. 

Perform a proper walk-around inspection on all equipment. 

Previous experience preferred but not required  

Pit Driving (Full access). 

Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.  

General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations. 

Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.  

Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. 

Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.  

Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills. 

Must be 21 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.  

Requires valid driver’s license. 

Reporting Relationships

Works under the direct supervision of the Blast Supervisor.
