Job description

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company's portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Description
Under the general direction of the Blast Supervisor, the role requires the employee to ensures the safe and proficient operation of all blast equipment with the ability to work to completion. The incumbent will carry out all blast functions as per instructions from the supervisor, and in accordance to State, Federal, MSHA, and Mine SOPs. All work must be completed in a safe and efficient manner while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross' values.
Job Responsibilities
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
• Operate all equipment pertaining to blasting procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Carry out all blast functions as per instructions from the supervisor.
• Visually inspect all work areas for any potential hazards and take appropriate action.
• Ensures safe evacuation and clearing of blast zones during shot activities. Optimize the schedule so that the production impact is minimized.
• Set up blast patterns and conduct blasts safely and efficiently. Must be able to competently execute blast design to achieve desired end results.
• Monitor work areas on an on-going basis to assure safe and cost efficient production goals are met.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees and contractors.
• Maintains accurate inventory and other blast records.
• Performs and documents walk around pre-shift inspections and monitors equipment continuously.
• Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance as needed.
• Promotes safety, enthusiasm, and good morale by leading by example.
• Complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently throughout any weather condition.
• Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
• Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
• Works without risk or harm to self and others.
• Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience
• Employee must possess the ability to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
• Background in explosive handling, experience in a mining environment preferred.
• Ability to receive Federal explosives user/possessor permission required.
• Must meet Federal and State eligibility requirements on handling explosives required.
• Must have a strong understanding of blasting, materials, and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team required.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and follow written and/or verbal instruction required.
• Demonstrable ability to perform the essential functions of this job required.
• Satisfactory safety, performance, and attendance records required.
• Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
• Heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
• Some technical knowledge of blasting products and practices, including safety is preferred.
• Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions; extreme heat and cold.
• Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
• General understanding of mining operations.
• Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, and preferred knowledge with JD Edwards Oracle systems.
• Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
• Requires valid driver's license.
