About The Role - Explosives Blaster Trainee (Greencastle, PA)

We are excited to announce an opportunity at Orica for an Explosives Blaster Trainee within our Orica USA Commercial team. 

As an Explosives Blaster Trainee, you will work alongside experienced blasters to learn safe blasting practices in mining and quarry environments. This hands-on field role includes assisting with loading, tying, and firing blasts; following strict safety procedures; identifying hazards; and participating in daily safety activities while building the skills needed for a professional blasting career. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a strong interest in developing their blasting expertise and obtaining state blasting licenses.

Work schedule
  • Monday through Friday
  • Local driving (2-3 hours)
  • Early morning start times to support customer operations
  • Work approximately 10-12 hours per day
  • Overtime may be needed
  • Up to 10% of overnight travel may be required
What you will be doing
  • This position will also assist experienced blasters under their supervision in conducting shot service activities safely, including stemming, timing, and proper product use.
  • Occasional travel outside the regional market area may be required.
  • Must be flexible to customer demands, including work schedules, and deal with weather changes.
  • Aware of the work environment, i.e., the operation of large haulage vehicles and specialized equipment in and around blast patterns
  • Actively participate in daily toolbox talks and monthly safety meetings to promote a safe and collaborative work environment.
What you will bring
  • Minimum of one year of experience in driving and/or material handling.
  • A solid understanding of DOT regulations is required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and basic math skills to manage daily inventory tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects, daily responsibilities, and urgent situations to maintain efficiency.
  • Basic computer skills preferred, including the ability/willingness to learn.


 

Physical requirements
  • The work environment involves being outside in all types of weather and bench conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and carry 50 pounds or more of product or materials.
  • Requires the ability to load product, pull large hoses, fill drilled holes, and climb on and off trucks.
  • Frequent shoveling of gravel to fill drilled holes throughout the day.
  • Regular pushing and pulling while working with equipment.
  • Other physical activities include frequent bending, squatting, and general mobility throughout the workday.

  • CDL License with tanker and hazmat endorsements
