Instructional Designer
Description of Position
The Instructional Designer is a full-time staff position responsible for supporting faculty in the design, development, and delivery of high-quality, engaging, and inclusive instructional materials. This role collaborates with faculty, staff, and academic leadership to implement best practices in course design, innovative pedagogy, and instructional technology to enhance student learning experiences.
Essential Functions:
  • Collaborates with faculty to design and develop online and hybrid courses aligned with instructional best practices.
  • Creates and maintains processes and procedures related to online course development aligned with best practices.
  • Provides guidance on curriculum development, assessment strategies, and course organization.
  • Develops and delivers training sessions and workshops on instructional design and technology integration.
  • Creates engaging and accessible multimedia content for use in instructional materials.
  • Evaluates and recommends instructional technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Supports faculty in integrating the learning management system (Canvas) and other digital tools into their courses.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of course effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Promotes and implements accessibility standards and universal design principles in all course materials.
  • Serves as a resource for faculty on emerging trends in instructional design and technology.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, educational technology, or a related field or a non-related bachelor's degree with a professional/graduate certificate in instructional design.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in instructional design or curriculum development.
  • Proficiency in using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle).
  • Experience designing accessible and inclusive instructional materials.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of instructional design models, such as ADDIE or backward design
  • The University requires that all staff members be Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU and be willing to help advance the spiritual goals of the University

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum & instruction, or a related field.
  • 3+ years experience in instructional design or related roles in higher education
  • Experience in developing courses for online and hybrid delivery formats.
  • Familiarity with multimedia creation tools (e.g., Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite, or Camtasia).
  • Experience applying universal design principles and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in instructional design and educational technology.

Compensation
The salary will be determined based on the educational background and experience of the candidate.
