Your Role and Impact
The 1040 Tax Manager will serve as a key member of the firm's established High Net Worth (HNW) 1040 group, responsible for reviewing, signing, and overseeing complex individual income tax returns prepared by staff. In addition to technical review responsibilities, this role includes training and developing junior preparers on the preparation of Form 1040 returns, helping to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to firm standards.
This role is designed for anexperiencedCPA or Enrolled Agent seeking a flexible schedule while continuing to contribute at a high technical level.
This position plays a key role in both quality control and team development during peak tax seasons.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Review and sign individual (Form 1040) income tax returns prepared by staff
  • Prepare 1040 returns as needed, depending on workload and experience
  • Provide technical review of supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Identifyand resolve tax issues, missing information, IRS and state notices and planning opportunities
  • Ensure proper application of federal andstateindividual income tax laws
  • Train and mentor staff on the preparation of Form 1040 returns, including best practices and firm standards
  • Provide feedback to improve staff accuracy, efficiency, and technical development
  • Prepare and review amended tax returns and extensions as needed
  • Communicate with internal team membersregardingopen items and clarification requests
  • Maintainhigh standardsfor accuracy, documentation, and workflow efficiency
  • Support seasonal workload peaks and meet firm deadlines
  • Adhere to firm processes, checklists, and quality control procedures

What You Bring to the Table
  • Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) licenserequired
  • 5+ years of experience in individual tax preparation and review (Form 1040 focus strongly preferred)
  • Prior experience reviewing returns and/or supervising or training junior staff strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of federal and state individual income tax rules
  • Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and complex individual tax engagementspreferred
  • Experience with tax preparation software (preferably CCH Axcess)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a hybrid team
