Job Summary:
The Field Deployment Coordinator - Drone & Scanning Solutions within Bechtel Equipment Operations (BEO) Solutions & Development (S&D) coordinates the mobilization, field execution, and operational support of drone, LiDAR, photogrammetry, and reality-capture solutions that improve project planning, safety, productivity, and decision-making across Bechtel projects. Based in Sugar Land, TX, this role bridges field operations, digital delivery, survey/scanning workflows, and innovation deployment. The role is well suited for individuals with strong field execution experience and hands-on knowledge of drone operations, LiDAR, photogrammetry, geospatial data capture, and digital construction workflows, who are looking to influence how Bechtel deploys advanced field technologies at scale.
Unlike traditional field engineering roles focused primarily on day-to-day site execution, the Field Deployment Coordinator works across multiple projects and business units to plan and deploy drone and scanning operations, establish repeatable field workflows, support pilot programs, and translate captured data into scalable practices that can be standardized across Bechtel's global portfolio.
Major Responsibilities:
Field Deployment & Mission Execution
• Coordinate the mobilization, setup, execution, and demobilization of drone, LiDAR, photogrammetry, and scanning equipment across multiple project sites.
• Plan field missions and deployment strategies to support surveying, progress tracking, site verification, inspection, and reality-capture objectives.
• Coordinate flight readiness, equipment checks, mission parameters, logistics, and field support requirements to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Support troubleshooting and field resolution of operational, technical, and deployment issues to maintain schedule and data quality.
Project & Field Coordination
• Interface directly with project teams, field supervision, survey groups, and construction leadership to align deployment priorities with project needs.
• Conduct site readiness reviews and field assessments to confirm access, airspace considerations, control points, scanning locations, and safe operating conditions.
• Coordinate with craft, operations, and digital delivery teams to integrate drone and scanning workflows into existing project execution processes.
• Provide on-site coordination during deployments and support field teams in adopting new capture technologies and workflows.
Scanning, Data Capture & Deliverables
• Execute or support aerial and terrestrial data capture workflows using UAVs, LiDAR, photogrammetry, and related scanning technologies.
• Support establishment and verification of control points, coordinate systems, capture plans, and quality checks to achieve required accuracy and usability.
• Coordinate processing and delivery of orthomosaics, point clouds, meshes, models, progress visuals, and other field data products needed by project teams.
• Maintain structured records including mission plans, capture logs, field notes, test results, equipment status, and deployment documentation.
Vendor, Equipment & Stakeholder Coordination
• Coordinate with external vendors, OEMs, software providers, and service partners to support deployment readiness, equipment performance, and technical issue resolution.
• Assist with equipment evaluations, demonstrations, maintenance coordination, and field testing of emerging drone and scanning technologies.
• Work across Engineering, Supply Chain, ES&H, Quality, IT, and Operations stakeholders to align approvals, data needs, and deployment execution.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
• Promote and support Bechtel's safety culture and ensure all drone and scanning operations comply with project, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
• Support compliance with applicable drone operating requirements, airspace restrictions, flight procedures, and project-specific controls, including FAA Part 107 expectations where required.
• Identify and document operational, safety, and data-quality risks associated with field deployments and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
Standardization, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
• Analyze deployment and capture data to assess performance, support business cases, and identify opportunities to improve field execution.
• Capture lessons learned and develop repeatable deployment standards, workflows, and guidance for broader adoption across projects.
• Support training and knowledge transfer for project teams, operators, and stakeholders adopting drone and scanning solutions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
  • Equivalent practical experience with 5+ years of relevant field deployment, surveying, scanning, drone operations, or technical construction experience.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification or the ability to obtain and maintain certification is preferred.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of construction field execution, deployment planning, and site operations in active project environments.
  • Hands-on knowledge of drone/UAV operations, LiDAR, photogrammetry, laser scanning, or related reality-capture technologies.
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Familiarity with mission planning, control points, geospatial data capture, quality checks, and field-to-digital workflows.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, site layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills with the ability to translate field data into actionable project insights.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with field personnel, technical specialists, vendors, and project leadership.
  • Familiarity with safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements in construction and drone-enabled field operations.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-direction, and ability to manage multiple deployments in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
