A Full Time COTA is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant who works a standard, full-time schedule, typically 35-40 hours per week. COTAs assist occupational therapists in helping patients develop, recover, and improve the skills needed for daily living and working. Their responsibilities include following treatment plans, documenting patient progress, and supporting patient education. Full-time COTAs work in various settings, such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, and nursing facilities. They play a critical role in helping individuals regain independence and improve their quality of life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time COTA, you need an associate degree from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program and a valid state license or certification. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMRs), rehabilitation software, and adaptive equipment is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and effective communication help COTAs build trust with patients and collaborate with occupational therapists and healthcare teams. These skills ensure effective therapy delivery, patient progress, and coordinated care in a clinical or rehabilitation setting.
