Job description

Aramco Americas Company
Sr. Carbon Capture Lab Scientist (1845)
R&D / Houston Downstream Research Center - Houston, TX. - Full Time
OVERVIEW:
Aramco Americas is establishing a state-of-the-art research center in Houston dedicated to advancing COโ‚‚ capture, low-carbon liquid fuels and chemicals, renewable energy, and energy storage solutions, as well as artificial intelligence applications in the energy sector. The center's mission is to transform early-stage, low-TRL research into mid-level technologies (TRL 5-7), bridging the gap between fundamental discovery and practical deployment.
SCOPE:
Aramco Americas is seeking senior carbon capture specialists with expertise in liquid absorption technologies to lead process and equipment development, system integration, and scale-up toward commercially ready carbon capture solutions. The position encompasses both research and engineering responsibilities, including hands-on work with bench-, pilot-, and demonstration-scale systems. This role will work closely with laboratory scientists, process engineers, and business stakeholders to adapt, optimize, and deploy solvent-based carbon capture technologies that address practical challenges in emissions reduction, energy efficiency, and operability within industrial environments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation in liquid absorption carbon capture processes, combined with demonstrated experience in managing multidisciplinary research programs and advancing innovations from concepts through pilot validation and deployment.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
  • Formulate objectives, technical scope and requirements for demonstrating CO2 capture systems
  • Organize project tasks and milestones, including evaluation of important schedules, deliverables, and resources.
  • Estimate the development schedule, resources, and costs.
  • Conduct periodic gate review meetings which involve aligning with proponents and Aramco/affiliates engineering.
  • Detailed engineering, construction, start up, and operation of demonstration systems.
  • Oversee testing and analyze testing results
  • Write technical reports/presentations, publish publications and present results at conferences.
  • Undertakes original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature.
  • Lead collaborative research internally (other R&D areas of the company) and externally (academic researchers).
  • Maintains and updates his/her working knowledge of applicable state-of- the-art laboratory instrumentation.
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment. Follow all company safety rules in performing job duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • PhD Degree in Engineering/Science Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned jobs.
  • Nine (9) years' experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the jobs' assignment.
  • Prefer candidates with experience/exposure to CCUS, liquid solvent design/formulation, direct air capture (DAC) using liquid approaches.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
  • Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project team, frequent project presentation and travel to meetings at conferences and universities. Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
