Concordia University is needing a Full-time Security Officer Floater who wants to be a part of this mission. The main campus (and this role) is located in Seward, Nebraska. Position Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Security and Safety Manager, the Security Officer patrols assigned territory to protect persons and property. Position will work flexible hours Monday-Friday. Occasional weekends may be required. This is a full-time position with full-time benefits. Must be at least 19 years of age to apply. Position pays $17 an hour.
Responsibilities:
  1. Tours buildings and property of the university, examining doors, windows and gates to assure they are secure.
  2. Inspects premises for such irregularities as signs of intrusion, interruption of utility services, suspicious acts or persons and fire or safety hazards.
  3. Inspects fire alarms, fire extinguishers, closed circuit television and access control systems for signs of tampering.
  4. Answers alarms, investigates disturbances and calls appropriate authorities as required by situation.
  5. Answers lock out calls from students or faculty/staff.
  6. Locks and unlocks doors according to schedule.
  7. Assists visitors or the general public in problems that may arise on the university campus.
  8. Writes reports of irregularities and keeps a daily log.
  9. Maintains confidentiality of security information.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience-
  • Previous experience as a security officer preferred.
Certifications-
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR.
Special Position Requirements:
  1. Ability to walk for 30-40 minutes per hour during an eight hour shift.
  2. Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs at a time.
  3. Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
  4. Vision correctable to 20/20 required.
  5. Hearing correctable within a normal range required.
  6. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  7. Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
  8. Must possess a good moral character.
Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Considerable physical activity, requires heavy physical work, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling required up to 25 pounds. Physical work is part of this job.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
