Trace Church - Full Time Security Lead

Position: Security Director / Safety & Security Manager
Reports To: Executive Pastor of Operations

Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week, including some nights and weekends.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000

Job Summary:
Trace Church is seeking a dedicated and reliable Full-Time Security Staff Person to ensure the safety and security of our congregation, staff, and facilities. This role blends strategic oversight with hands-on leadership, including recruiting and developing volunteer security teams, assessing risks, strengthening operational processes, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all attendees.This individual will lead response efforts, maintaining building security, overseeing after-hours events, and serving as a liaison with city officials and external security teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Security Strategy & Oversight
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive security plan for all church activities (weekend services, events, classes, and special gatherings)
    • Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and physical security measures
    • Establish emergency response protocols (medical, fire, weather, active threat, etc.)
    • Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders as needed
  • Response Team Lead:
    • Recruit, train, and retain a team of volunteer security personnel
    • Build clear roles, schedules, and expectations for volunteers across multiple services and events
    • Provide ongoing training in situational awareness, de-escalation, and emergency response
    • Foster a culture of professionalism, hospitality, and vigilance within the team
    • Works with response team leaders to ensure scheduling and proper coverage during Trace Church events (Sunday services, Trace Youth services, and other events as needed).
    • Onboards new response team members, including performing background checks and implementing initial training and vision-casting.
  • Building Security Management:
    • Ensure all entry and exit points are secure, and alarm systems are functional.
    • Monitor security cameras and other surveillance equipment.
    • Manage access control for authorized personnel and events.
    • Oversee the maintenance and functionality of all security equipment.
  • After-Hours Event Management:
    • Provide security oversight for events held after regular church hours, including ensuring the safety of attendees and property.
    • Coordinate with event organizers to understand security needs and provide appropriate coverage.
    • Manage opening and closing procedures for after-hours events.
  • Liaison with City and Security Teams:
    • Work with Extra Duty Solutions to book and maintain relationships to book Colorado Springs Police Department when necessary.
    • Act as the primary point of contact between Trace Church and local law enforcement, fire department, and other city emergency services.
    • Collaborate with external security companies or personnel as needed.
    • Stay informed on local security regulations and best practices.
  • General Security Duties:
    • Address security concerns raised by staff, volunteers, or congregation members.
    • Prepare detailed incident reports when necessary.
    • Implement and enforce church security policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in security, law enforcement, military, or related field
  • Strong leadership skills with experience building and managing teams (volunteer leadership preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and improve operational processes
  • Strong understanding of security protocols, emergency response, and risk management.
  • Ability to lead and direct a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
  • Knowledge of local security regulations and community resources.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Physical ability to patrol premises and respond to incidents as required.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time.

Employment Details:

  • Vacation:15 days/year
