Overall Objectives

Educates and nurtures students through visual arts instruction in a Chinese immersion environment, following Yinghua Academyโ€™s mission, core values, and principles. The Chinese Immersion Art Teacher fosters creativity, artistic expression, and cultural appreciation while supporting studentsโ€™ development in both artistic skills and Chinese language proficiency.


Principal Roles & Responsibilities

Academic Program

  • Maintains a safe and nurturing Chinese immersion learning environment.
  • Plans and delivers visual arts instruction aligned with grade-level standards, incorporating elements of Chinese language and culture when appropriate.
  • Develops studentsโ€™ artistic skills, creativity, and appreciation for the visual arts.
  • Adapts instruction to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of students.
  • Conducts student assessments in various forms to evaluate artistic growth and understanding.
  • Collaborates with the Academic Director, classroom teachers, and specialists to support interdisciplinary connections and student learning.
  • Attends/Supports school-wide events, performances, and showcases that highlight student artwork and creativity.

Curriculum and Research

  • Prepares and regularly submits curriculum pacing and lesson plans.
  • Integrates culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate art practices into instruction.
  • Participates in all scheduled professional development and ongoing learning opportunities.

Classroom/Behavior Management

  • Follows school-wide behavioral and safety guidelines and policies.
  • Applies school and classroom rules consistently and effectively.
  • Ensures proper use, care, and organization of art materials and equipment.
  • Seeks guidance from administration and instructional leaders on classroom management strategies as needed.

Program Compliance

  • Maintains accurate student records and proper documentation.
  • Prepares progress reports and completes all evaluations.
  • Attends all required safety and health training.
  • Follows all school policies and protocols.

Communication

  • Actively participates in staff and team meetings.
  • Communicates with students the expectations for student behavior, participation, and and artistic work.
  • Maintains effective communication with parents in a timely fashion, including sharing student progress and showcasiing student work when appropriate.
  • Conducts parent-teacher conferences as scheduled.
  • Reads all school communication and responds to emails and phone calls in a timely and professional manner.

Professional Conduct

  • Upholds professional and ethical standards in all interactions, maintaining confidentiality and respect in all matters, including student-related information and sensitive organizational topics.
  • Models and encourages all behavior outlined by the Board-approved Professional Conduct Policy.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all areas related to students.
  • Demonstrates reliability and good judgment.
  • Participates in required training and ongoing relevant professional development.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Art Education or a related field required; Prior immersion classroom teaching experience preferred.
  • Holds a valid Minnesota teaching license in Visual Arts (Kโ€“12), or has the ability to obtain licensure through the Professional Educator Licensing & Standards Board.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate language and content instruction in an immersion or multilingual environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the schoolโ€™s standards for Chinese and English language proficiency.
  • Experience using a variety of art media and instructional techniques.
  • Use of technology as a language learning and instructional tool.
