Job description

Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) (Full-Time)
Description: The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is seeking a strategic, mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the President & CEO, the CFO serves as a trusted strategic advisor and provides financial leadership that supports the YMCA's mission, growth, and long-term sustainability.
The CFO oversees all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash and treasury management, investments, internal controls, audit, and tax compliance. The role also provides executive-level oversight of capital project finances, significant contracts, and the financial and business implications of significant legal matters.
This is an opportunity for an experienced financial leader to have a meaningful voice in organizational strategy, major investments, growth initiatives, and long-term planning while contributing to the mission and impact of the YMCA.
Responsibilities:
Strategic & Financial Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the President & CEO, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and Executive Leadership Team, providing financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational decision-making.
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that support the YMCA's Strategic Plan, long-term sustainability, capital initiatives, and growth opportunities.
  • Lead the annual operating and capital budget processes, forecasting, long-range financial planning, and performance monitoring.
  • Oversee accounting, financial reporting, cash flow, investments, debt management, banking and treasury functions, and internal controls.
  • Identify financial and operational risks and opportunities and recommend strategies to strengthen organizational performance.
  • Lead and develop the Finance team and strengthen financial accountability throughout the association.

Capital Projects, Contracts & Risk Management
  • Provide financial oversight of major capital projects, including budgeting, financing, cash-flow planning, contract considerations, and monitoring project expenditures.
  • Review significant contracts and agreements, evaluating financial terms, obligations, business risks, and organizational impact in partnership with the President & CEO and legal counsel, as appropriate.
  • Provide high-level business and financial review of legal matters with significant financial, contractual, or operational implications.
  • Oversee applicable risk management functions, including insurance coverage and renewals, claims oversight, and coordination with insurance brokers, carriers, and legal counsel.

Audit, Compliance & Governance
  • Lead the annual independent audit and oversee IRS Form 990 and required regulatory filings.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, auditors, banks, and other financial partners.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • 8+ years of progressively responsible financial experience, including significant senior-level leadership and experience leading finance and accounting teams.
  • Strong expertise in financial strategy, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, audit, and financial planning.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear business recommendations.
  • Experience with capital planning, contracts, risk management, insurance, and complex organizational financial decisions preferred.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • Experience within a multi-site nonprofit, healthcare, education, association, or similarly complex organization preferred.
  • Pass a 10-panel urinalysis drug screen
  • Clear a Level 2 background check*
