We are hiring a Survey Crew Chief to lead surveying projects throughout the Wichita area. This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently in the field, directing a survey crew, operating modern surveying equipment, and completing a mix of boundary, topographic, construction, and land-development surveys.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply immediately. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.

What You’ll Do

As the Survey Crew Chief, you will plan and lead daily field operations while ensuring survey data is collected accurately, efficiently, and safely.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform boundary, topographic, construction, ALTA/NSPS, utility, and land-development surveys
  • Complete construction staking, layout, as-built surveys, and site-control work
  • Establish and verify horizontal and vertical control
  • Locate property corners, monuments, easements, rights-of-way, utilities, and improvements
  • Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, conventional total stations, levels, and electronic data collectors
  • Review project plans, plats, legal descriptions, drawings, and survey instructions before beginning fieldwork
  • Maintain organized and accurate field notes, sketches, photographs, measurements, and electronic survey data
  • Perform field calculations and verify collected information before leaving the project site
  • Download, organize, and transfer field data for office processing
  • Communicate with project managers, surveyors, engineers, contractors, property owners, and other field personnel
  • Identify field conflicts, boundary concerns, access issues, and project delays
  • Maintain survey vehicles, tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Train and provide direction to survey technicians and field crew members
  • Follow company safety procedures and applicable surveying standards
  • Complete projects accurately while meeting schedules and client expectations

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience performing a combination of boundary, topographic, construction, and land-development surveying
  • Ability to independently organize and complete field survey assignments
  • Experience operating GPS/GNSS systems and robotic total stations
  • Ability to read construction plans, plats, legal descriptions, and engineering drawings
  • Understanding of survey control, construction staking, property boundaries, elevations, and field calculations
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
  • Ability to lead, train, and communicate effectively with field crew members
  • Comfortable working outdoors in changing weather and terrain
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout Wichita and the surrounding area

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of field surveying experience
  • Previous Survey Crew Chief or Party Chief experience
  • Experience with Trimble, Leica, Topcon, Carlson, or similar surveying equipment
  • Experience with data collectors and electronic field-coding procedures
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, or related software
  • Experience completing ALTA/NSPS surveys, subdivision plats, easement surveys, and construction layout
  • Knowledge of Kansas surveying practices and local construction requirements
  • OSHA 10 or other applicable safety training

This is an active field position. The Survey Crew Chief must be able to:
