Summary:
About the Role
The Department of Thoracic Surgery at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking a full-time Interventional Pulmonologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join a nationally recognized thoracic oncology program within an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. This is an exciting opportunity to practice at the forefront of interventional pulmonary medicine, lung cancer screening, and advanced minimally invasive therapeutics in a highly collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
The successful candidate will join the thoracic surgery team alongside Nathaniel Ivanick and contribute to a growing and innovative interventional pulmonary program serving patients with both malignant and complex benign pulmonary diseases. Physicians in this role will have access to advanced technologies including robotic-assisted bronchoscopy utilizing the Galaxy® platform and the Aliya® catheter for tumor ablation within the airway and peripheral lung.
This position is ideal for a physician who is passionate about procedural innovation, multidisciplinary oncology care, translational research, and advancing the future of interventional pulmonary medicine.
What You'll Do
• Perform the full spectrum of interventional pulmonary procedures including rigid bronchoscopy, tumor ablation, airway stenting, and pleuroscopy
• Utilize advanced technologies including robotic-assisted bronchoscopy and airway/peripheral tumor ablation platforms
• Diagnose and manage complex benign pulmonary diseases including advanced emphysema and interstitial lung disease
• Participate in bronchoscopic lung volume reduction and lung cryobiopsy procedures
• Provide outpatient pulmonary care, lung cancer screening services, inpatient consultative services, and optional critical care coverage
• Participate in two dedicated procedural days within a state-of-the-art endoscopy suite
• Participate in clinical and translational research initiatives within thoracic oncology and pulmonary medicine
• Contribute to clinical trial participation and leadership opportunities
• Collaborate closely with thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and translational investigators
• Support innovative procedural and therapeutic advancements within interventional pulmonary medicine
• Teach and supervise pulmonary fellows from the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
• Participate in resident and trainee education within a collaborative academic environment
• Foster a culture of mentorship, continuous learning, and academic engagement
• Work closely with thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology, pulmonary medicine, pathology, radiology, and critical care teams
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and collaborative treatment planning
• Foster a culture aligned with High Reliability Organization principles emphasizing innovation, accountability, patient safety, and teamwork

What You'll Bring
• Completed Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology
• MD, DO, or equivalent degree with Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine
• Eligibility for a New York State medical license
• Eligibility for or achievement of Diplomate status with the Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology
• Strong clinical expertise in interventional pulmonary procedures and advanced bronchoscopy techniques

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
License and Certification Requirement
1. License or permit to practice as a Medical Doctor in the State of New York.
2. Possession of or eligibility for a valid medical specialty certificate in Thoracic Surgery and Oncology.
Education and Experience
Medical Doctor degree and prior full-time experience in the specialty of Thoracic Surgery and Oncology.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
License and Certification Requirement
1. License or permit to practice as a Medical Doctor in the State of New York.

3. Possession of or eligibility for a valid Diplomate of Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology certificate.
