Overview
The Division of Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation at Children's Mercy Kansas City is seeking a full-time BE/BC Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist to join our Oncology Team with a focus in the care of children and adolescents with solid tumors.
The Children's Mercy Kansas City Cancer Center cares for approximately 200 newly diagnosed patients with cancer per year. The oncology team is made up of 9 physicians, 7 advanced practice nurses and 2 nurse coordinators. Children's Mercy is an active member of the Children's Oncology Group. Through our Experimental Therapeutics in Pediatric Cancer Program, we participate in a number of other clinical trial consortia - such as the Pediatric Early Phase Clinical Trial Network (PEP-CTN), the Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia and Lymphoma Consortium (TACL), and the Beat Childhood Cancer Research Consortium-providing broad access to Phase I and II trials.
The selected candidate will participate in clinical, research, and educational activities and should have an interest in mentoring residents and/or Hematology-Oncology fellows. The division consists of 27 physicians across four key areas: Oncology, Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, and Inpatient Hem/Onc Hospitalist Medicine. Our outpatient clinic includes 14 infusion bays and 18 exam rooms dedicated exclusively to hematology/oncology care. The 38-bed inpatient unit features fully HEPA-filtered private rooms, and patients are cared for by four specialized Hem/Onc services: the resident/fellow inpatient team, the chemotherapy team, the BMT team, and a dedicated hematology consultation service- all supported by residents and/or advanced practice providers.
The Children's Mercy Cancer Center comprises physicians and scientists across multiple specialties and offers patient-centered programs in Survivorship, Hispanic/Latino Care (HOPE Clinic), Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Oncology, and Cancer Predisposition. Research opportunities are available across the Children's Mercy campus, the University of Kansas Cancer Center, and the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. The Children's Mercy Research Institute-our state-of-the-art, nine-story facility-houses wet and dry labs, a GMP manufacturing facility, and a vivarium. Additional research support is provided through our Cancer Genomics Program, Tumor Biorepository, and the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, which maintains an active cancer pharmacogenomics program. Research activities receive strong institutional backing and are supported by NIH, foundation, philanthropic, and internal funding mechanisms.
