How much do full time babysitter jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 5, 2026, the average hourly pay for full time babysitter in the United States is $16.35, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.87 and $16.83 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Can you make a living off babysitting?

Full-time babysitters can make a living depending on their hourly rate, hours worked, and location. Earning enough typically requires consistent hours, experience, and sometimes additional certifications like CPR. Many babysitters supplement their income with other caregiving or related services.

Is $20 an hour fair for babysitting?

For a full-time babysitter, $20 an hour is generally considered above average in many regions, especially for experienced caregivers or those with special skills like CPR certification. Rates can vary based on location, responsibilities, and the number of children, but $20 per hour often reflects a competitive wage for full-time babysitting jobs.

What are some common challenges full-time babysitters face when working with families, and how can they address them?

Full-time babysitters often encounter challenges such as adapting to different parenting styles, managing multiple children with varying needs, and maintaining clear communication with parents. Navigating these situations requires flexibility, patience, and proactive communication—regularly checking in with parents and setting clear expectations can help. Additionally, building trust with both children and parents, and being open to feedback, are key to creating a positive and collaborative work environment.

What does a full time babysitter do?

A full time babysitter is responsible for caring for children during the parents' working hours or as needed throughout the week. Their duties typically include preparing meals, supervising playtime, assisting with homework, and ensuring the children's safety and well-being. Full time babysitters may also help with light housekeeping, transportation to activities, and maintaining a daily routine. They play an important role in supporting families by providing dependable and nurturing care for children.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time Babysitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Babysitter, you need a solid understanding of child development, safety practices, and basic first aid, often supported by CPR/first aid certification and relevant experience. Familiarity with scheduling apps, communication tools, and sometimes home monitoring devices is helpful. Patience, strong communication, and the ability to build trust with both children and parents are crucial soft skills. These abilities ensure the child's wellbeing, foster a safe and nurturing environment, and build confidence with families.

What is the difference between Full Time Babysitter vs Part Time Babysitter?

AspectFull Time BabysitterPart Time Babysitter

CertificationsOften required to have CPR, first aid, and childcare certificationsMay not require certifications, but preferred
Work EnvironmentPrimarily in the child's home, possibly with a set scheduleFlexible, often on an as-needed basis
Employer UsageFamilies seeking consistent, full-time careFamilies needing occasional or part-time help

Full Time Babysitters provide consistent, full-day care and often hold certifications like CPR and first aid. Part Time Babysitters work fewer hours, offering flexible support without necessarily requiring certifications. The choice depends on the family's needs for regularity and hours of care.

Is $30 a day good for babysitting?

For a full-time babysitter, $30 a day is generally below average pay, as most full-time babysitting jobs pay hourly rates that add up to a higher weekly or monthly total. Typical rates vary by location, experience, and responsibilities, but full-time positions often pay between $200 and $600 per week. It's important to consider local standards and the number of hours worked when evaluating pay rates.

Is $100 a day good for babysitting?

For a full-time babysitter, $100 a day is generally below average, as typical daily rates range from $80 to $150 depending on location, experience, and responsibilities. Rates can vary based on the number of children, hours worked, and required skills such as CPR certification. It's important to consider local market rates and the specific duties involved when evaluating pay.

Job description

A warm and busy family in Greenwich, CT is seeking a live-out, full-time nanny to start immediately. The family has four children- two girls and two boys (ages 7, 5, 2.5, and 7 months).

The nanny will work collaboratively alongside another full-time nanny to cover daytime childcare needs. This is a highly team-oriented role requiring exceptional communication and partnership.  The family also employs two full-time housekeepers that are responsible for, among other things, the children's laundry. The ideal candidates are energetic, confident, organized, collaborative, comfortable managing multiple children (including an infant).

This is a screen-free household. The children are active, engaged, and involved in a variety of activities and interests. The family values an approach centered on respect, emotional regulation, and clear, firm boundaries. The home is warm and informal in tone but places a high value on professionalism, reliability, and strong communication.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • 10:30am – 7:30pm (with some required flexibility)
  • Approximately 45 hours per week
  • Summer schedule remains similar (children attend day camps for much of the summer)
  • Minimal travel (ideally 1–2 weeks per year)
  • Very occasional overnights may be required

  •      Partner with the existing nanny to provide team-based care for four children (7, 5, 2.5, and 7 months)
  • Confidently manage up to three children independently for short periods
  • Managing after-school through bedtime routines---notably supervising homework and supporting academic success
  • Create educational opportunities through hands-on learning, science experiments, nature exploration, reading and other age-appropriate academic support
  • Helping children stay organized with school materials, sports equipment, uniforms, bags and personal belongings
  • School pick-ups and transportation to/from after-school activities (older children attend school 7:45am–2:45pm; 2-year old attends preschool 8:00am-12:00pm)
  • Plan engaging, age-appropriate activities and maintain daily structure
  • Provide full infant care including diapering, feeding, nap schedules, sterilizing bottles and toys, and supporting developmental milestones
  • Manage child-related household tasks (organizing, preparing meals/snacks, managing supplies, toy rotations and seasonal organization projects)
  • Prepare healthy, homemade meals and snacks focused on teaching positive eating habits
  • Coordinate children's schedules and activity registrations
  • Arrange and manage playdates
  • Supervise children in and around the pool
  • Maintain a calm, positive presence while setting appropriate boundaries
  • Communicate proactively with parents and collaborate with additional household staff

This role is structured and supported---consistent school and activity hours allow time to complete child-related responsibilities during school hours.

  • Background in education, child development, or tutoring
  • Experience caring for multiple young children simultaneously (including older infants, toddlers and elementary-aged children)
  • Comfortable working as part of a two-nanny team
  • Warm yet confident in setting limits
  • Highly organized and proactive
  • Emotionally intelligent with strong situational awareness
  • Confident and safe driver

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Minimum 5 years of full-time nanny experience
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred (especially in Early Childhood Education)
  • Non-smoker
  • Strong swimmer and comfortable supervising around water

  • $98,800-$111,124 ($40-$45/hour) DOE

  • Guaranteed 45 hours per week
  • W-2 Employment
  • 2 weeks PTO (one week chosen by family)
  • 5 sick days
