Job description

About Wing:
Wing offers drone delivery as a safe, fast, and sustainable solution for last mile logistics. Consumer appetites for on-demand services are increasing, but current delivery methods are inefficient, costly, and contribute to road accidents and air pollution. Wing's fleet of highly automated delivery drones can transport small packages directly from businesses to homes on-demand, in minutes. We design, build, and operate our aircraft, and offer drone delivery services on two continents. Our technology is designed to be easy to integrate into existing delivery and logistics networks, offering a scalable drone delivery solution for a broad range of businesses. Wing is a part of Google's parent company, Alphabet, and our mission is to create the preferred means of delivery for the planet. If you're ready to do the greatest work of your life, come join us.
About the Role:
Wing is looking for a Aviation Safety Data Analystto join our Aviation Safety team. This role will be hybrid based in Palo Alto, California. As an Aviation Safety Data Analyst, you will own the end-to-end safety data ecosystem while supporting the wider Safety Management System (SMS) requirements. Operating with a roughly 70/30 split between data analytics/engineering and safety management tasks. You must possess a strong safety mindset to deeply understand the operational context behind the numbers, while also being flexible and willing to step in to execute Safety Management System functions.
What You'll Do:
  • Own and manage the end-to-end safety data ecosystem, acting as the primary driver for how safety data is collected, processed, and utilized.
  • Analyze complex safety data sets to identify trends and emerging risks, building and maintaining safety performance charts and dashboards to visualize the effectiveness of controls.
  • Apply a safety-focused mindset to data analytics, understanding the reasoning behind the data to ensure responsible parties have comprehensive, actionable information.
  • Partner daily with Engineering, Flight Operations, and Flight Test teams to ensure safety data is accurate, scalable, and reflects the reality of our operations.
  • Step in to support cross-functional risk assessments on new technologies, operational concepts, and proposed flight environments to identify hazards and develop robust controls.
  • Assist in thorough safety investigations into reports or events as needed, utilizing root-cause analysis to ensure we learn from every event and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support safety promotion and assurance activities, assisting with safety training sessions and crafting communications to share data-driven, safety-critical lessons learned.

What You'll Need:
  • 5+ years of data engineering or analytics experience working within a regulated environment, preferably in aviation or autonomous systems.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Aviation, Aeronautics, computer science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or Data Analytics
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative and qualitative safety data analysis, including proficiency in SQL and visualization tools (e.g., Looker Studio) to build dashboards and "tell the story" behind the numbers
  • A strong safety mindset with an eagerness to learn Safety Management System (SMS) principles, and the willingness to actively pick up hands-on safety tasks when required.
  • Excellent documentation skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and operational stakeholders to keep safety at the forefront of the business
  • The flexibility to adapt to evolving priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively
