Summary

The Audio Visual (A/V) Systems Engineer develops technically accurate, high-quality audiovisual system designs based on client needs, project requirements, budgets, and implementation considerations. This position combines A/V engineering expertise with practical and creative problem-solving to develop solutions that can be successfully executed by project and installation teams.

The A/V Systems Engineer works closely with Sales, Engineering, and Project Management throughout the complete project lifecycle and communicates directly with clients, partners, and related trades as needed to maintain alignment between design intent, scope, and final implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer A/V systems for a variety of environments, including conference rooms, classrooms, corporate headquarters, stadiums & arenas, performance spaces, casinos, themed entertainment spaces, performing arts centers, and immersive brand environments.
  • Develop comprehensive audiovisual design documentation in accordance with established Design and Engineering Standards, including:
    • Floor Plans
    • Ceiling Plans
    • Elevations
    • Rack Layouts
    • Details, including AV Panels and mounting requirements
    • Single Line (signal flow) diagrams
    • Device Mounting Details
    • AV Connection Details
    • Electrical and Structural requirements and coordination
  • Prepare scope of work narratives and bid specifications when required.
  • Create, review, and validate final equipment lists and bills of materials based on project requirements and established budgets.
  • Conduct site surveys and client needs-analysis meetings, document findings, and incorporate relevant information into system designs.
  • Partner with Account Executives and Project Managers to define project scope, develop estimates, and support proposal preparation.
  • Perform acoustic and lighting assessments and recommend appropriate system requirements, including considerations such as color temperature, light intensity, and acoustic treatment.
  • Conduct design reviews, validate installation quality, and provide technical direction and support to installers and technicians.
  • Provide technical assistance to service teams and serve as an engineering resource for high-profile or escalated client issues.
  • Coordinate with IT, electrical, structural, HVAC, and other related trades to ensure system integration requirements are properly addressed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of A/V industry standards, product developments, and emerging technologies.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to A/V Technical Staff.
  • Establish and maintain professional client-facing communication while building effective working relationships across internal teams and external partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business and project needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Audio-Visual industry, including at least 2 years in a design/engineering capacity.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of projection manufacturer lens calculators.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong product and systems knowledge across:
    • Pro Audio
    • Video
    • Display
    • Projection
    • Digital Signage
    • Control Systems, including Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp, and Q-Sys
    • Conferencing platforms
    • Networking fundamentals
  • Experience with AV systems estimating and working with major AV manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and technical documentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and directly with clients.
  • Ability to travel periodically for site surveys, project meetings, and installation support.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with reasonable accommodations where applicable, including:
    • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
    • Occasional walking on level surfaces during the workday.
    • Occasional reaching above shoulder height or below waist level for filing or storing materials.
    • Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds, including files, equipment, or computer materials, using proper lifting techniques.
    • Walking active job sites, climbing ladders, or carrying lightweight equipment during occasional site surveys or client visits.

Preferences

  • Technical degree in electrical, mechanical, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Revit/BIM, Bluebeam, and EASE analysis strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with AVIXA standards.
  • CTS or CTS-D certification preferred.
  • Networking certifications such as CCNA.
  • Manufacturer certifications, including Q-Sys, Crestron DM, Biamp Tesira, or similar credentials.
