Description
The Technical Designer for Childrenswear plays a critical part in the garment development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality standards, fit consistency, and brand integrity from concept through production.
The Technical Designer will be responsible for creating initial garment specifications, managing fittings, and maintaining accurate, vendor-ready tech packs. This role partners closely with Design, Product Development, and cross-functional teams to translate design intent into production-ready garments while supporting speed-to-market in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Develop initial garment specifications for costing and sample production, ensuring alignment with design intent and childrens tolerances/requirements
  • Execute and maintain detailed, vendor-ready tech packs-including sketches, materials, construction details, and measurement charts-throughout the product lifecycle
  • Conduct fit sessions and manage the fit process through to production sample approval
  • Evaluate garments for fit, balance, and construction; provide clear, concise, and actionable fit comments
  • Establish specifications and construction requirements across a range of garment types
  • Communicate fit revisions and technical direction to factories through comprehensive tech packs and written communication
  • Apply garment construction to enhance product quality and consistency
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Product Development, and Technical teams to translate aesthetic vision into production-ready garments
  • Participate in daily handoffs, ensuring alignment on fit intent, construction, and design details with cross-functional partners
  • Proactively recommend improvements to specifications, construction methods, and development processes
  • Ensure brand integrity and fit consistency throughout the development process while adhering to timelines and key milestones

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Technical Design or a related field
  • 3-5 years of Technical Design experience, preferably within children's apparel
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, balance, and fabrics
  • Proven ability to develop specs, conduct fittings, and manage product through production approval
  • Working knowledge of MS Suite especially Outlook and Teams, proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, and PLM systems
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical information and fit comments
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Resourceful problem-solver with strong follow-up skills and sense of ownership
  • Experience working in a high-volume production environment

New York Pay Rate $57,000.00 - $75,000.00
