THE POSITION
As a Clerical Assistant 2 (LIHEAP) with the Department of Human Services, you will help ensure that individuals and families receive timely support. This position gives you the opportunity to build strong connections as you assist customers and staff. Your work will make the daily operations of the Allegheny County Assistance Office more effective. Step into a role where your efforts create meaningful results.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the daily operations of the Allegheny County Assistance Office by helping staff and customers with important clerical tasks. The role promotes smooth and accurate handling of documents, inquiries and customer needs. As a Clerical Assistant 2 (LIHEAP), you will perform the following duties:
  • Mail Processing: Process incoming and outgoing mail by receiving, opening, date stamping, clearing and sorting items
  • Application Handling: Clear, AP, scan and attach LIHEAP applications for both Cash and Crisis programs
  • Customer Reception: Greet walk in clients in a professional manner and direct them by contacting the appropriate staff person
  • Verification Management: Take client verification materials to forward to the proper staff member and scan documents after date stamping
  • Phone Support: Answer telephone calls, take messages for staff and provide general information to customers
  • Office Equipment Operation: Operate office equipment including copier, scanner, PC, shredder and printer

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time, seasonal employment, 37.5 hours per week.
    • This is a full time, seasonal position that typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons to assist clients in the process of applying for heating assistance.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch.
  • Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
  • Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly rate of $18.83 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
