Job Summary:

Assists surgeons and anesthesiologist and coordinates flow of equipment, supplies and staff during a surgical procedure. Assures patient safety throughout the perioperative phase of care. Participates in patient care planning, assessment and nursing treatment. This position is represented by CNA.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent: Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred
  • One year previous full time experience in the operating room: Required

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Preferred
  • Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR): Preferred
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Is competent to circulate in the Operating Room during a surgical procedure. Is knowledgeable of and consistently applies the principles of aseptic technique. Is competent to safely operate all equipment routinely utilized in the Operating Room.
  • Is competent to prepare patients for surgery, including safe, appropriate anatomical positioning. Is competent to perform pre, intra, and post procedure patient care planning and assessment following established Surgery Department criteria.
  • Is competent to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials from operative procedures. Is competent to access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job related responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job specific responsibilities related to patient safety, security, emergency preparedness, emergent patient situations, control of hazardous materials/waste, life safety, medical equipment and utility systems as outlined in the Hospital's environment of care plan.
  • Documents temperature of tissue/allografts, verifies package integrity, delivers to sterile field, per manufacturers' guidelines; documents process in appropriate tissue log book. Efficiently uses down time for job-related or unit specific work, including, but not limited to: chart auditing, cleaning and restocking, training or .edu modules).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
