PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Chaplaincy Department of a state hospital, correctional facility or agency this class is accountable for ministering to the pastoral needs of the population and for conducting religious services.\r\n
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
\r\n\r\n\r\n Preaches and conducts religious services in a state facility;\r\n Administers rites and sacraments;\r\n Prepares and preaches sermons;\r\n Confers with visiting clergy;\r\n Consults with facility staff on religious problems;\r\n Interprets Chaplain function to other departments in facility;\r\n Under appropriate clinical supervision, counsels individuals and their families;\r\n Participates in team meetings;\r\n Keeps records and writes reports;\r\n Assists in organizing and conducting seminars for community clergy;\r\n Participates in various in-house educational programs;\r\n May speak to lay and professional groups;\r\n May train and conduct choir;\r\n May serve on a variety of committees;\r\n May participate in Employee Assistance Program;\r\n May counsel staff and their families;\r\n Performs related duties as required.\r\n\r\n\r\n
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
\r\n\r\n Incumbents must possess one of the following:\r\n \r\n Graduation from an accredited three (3) year postgraduate theological seminary;\r\n A Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent;\r\n Completion of all formal religious training required by a recognized religious denomination necessary to perform the pastoral role.\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n\r\nAND\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n One (1) year of pastoral experience or equivalent experience within a recognized religious denomination.\r\n\r\n\r\n
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\r\n Experience working with diverse and at-risk populations;\r\n Experience working with diverse cultures;\r\n Experience or familiarity with other faith traditions;\r\n Experience working independently;\r\n Experience multi-tasking and having the ability to keep records and work schedules organized;\r\n Experience working in a team environment with others who may come from different backgrounds and/or beliefs;\r\n Current Endorsement or ability to be Endorsed; and\r\n Formal Religious Training must be recognized by a regional or national religious denomination.\r\n\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
\r\n \r\n Incumbents in this class must have been ordained or commissioned by a religious body and received endorsement by an acceptable recognized denominational authority for this position. Endorsement or credentialing by the same endorsing authority must be ongoing and uninterrupted as a condition of employment.\r\n \r\n \r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.\r\n \r\n \r\n Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.\r\n \r\n\r\n
