What is the difference between Full Stack Developer vs Front End Developer?

AspectFull Stack DeveloperFront End Developer
SkillsProficient in both front-end and back-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, server-side languages, and databases.Specializes in client-side technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React or Angular.
Work EnvironmentWorks on both server and client-side development, often handling entire project stacks.Focuses primarily on designing and implementing user interfaces and user experience.
Common UsageUsed in full project development, especially in startups and small teams.Primarily involved in UI/UX design and front-end implementation in larger teams.

While both roles require strong web development skills, Full Stack Developers handle both front-end and back-end tasks, providing a comprehensive approach to web projects. Front End Developers focus solely on creating engaging and responsive user interfaces. Understanding these differences helps employers and developers choose the right role for their project needs.

What are some common challenges Full Stack Developers face when working on cross-functional teams?

Full Stack Developers often collaborate with designers, backend engineers, project managers, and QA testers, which can introduce challenges like aligning on project requirements and managing different technical perspectives. Coordinating between frontend and backend tasks while ensuring seamless integration is another common hurdle. Additionally, staying up-to-date with evolving technologies on both ends of the stack requires strong time management and continuous learning. Effective communication and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and delivering cohesive solutions.

What Does a Full Stack Developer Do?

As a full stack developer, your job is to work on the front-end and the back-end of a company's database, server, and application systems. Rather than specializing in one particular area, full stack developers typically focus on prototyping software that other employees expand on later. Knowledge of many different types of systems can reduce the time needed to develop software and highlight any significant challenges. In this role, you may be asked to gain proficiency in several coding languages, use third-party data libraries, and carefully manage your time to ensure all projects finish promptly. Most full stack developers work as part of a larger team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Stack Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Stack Developer, you need expertise in both front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Python, or Java) and a solid understanding of web development principles, often supported by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with frameworks like React or Angular, back-end environments like Node.js or Django, version control systems like Git, and possibly cloud platforms is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills distinguish excellent developers, allowing them to work effectively in team environments and with stakeholders. These technical and soft skills are vital for building, maintaining, and optimizing complex, user-friendly web applications that meet business needs.

What is a Full Stack Developer?

A Full Stack Developer is a software professional who is skilled in both front-end (client side) and back-end (server side) development. They are capable of designing, building, and maintaining complete web applications or systems, handling everything from user interfaces and databases to server logic and APIs. Full Stack Developers often work with a range of programming languages and frameworks, such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Node.js, Python, and SQL, among others. Their versatility allows them to contribute to multiple stages of the software development lifecycle, making them valuable assets to development teams.

Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

Job description

Hi there!

How would you like to work with a world-class team, build a new product area from the ground up, and help reshape how millions of drivers and households interact with energy behind the scenes?

At Eliq, you'll be joining a fast-growing SaaS company building the data and intelligence layer that connects energy retailers with partners like car manufacturers, banks and insurers. Our mission is to make clean, low-cost energy effortless for consumers, and Embedded Energy is one of our most exciting product areas. We're already powering energy experiences across 15 countries for 10s of millions of users, and we're now scaling the next generation of embedded energy propositions across Europe.

We've embarked on a growth journey with major enterprise clients, and this role gives you the chance to shape a completely new category in energy services and contribute to a low-carbon, intelligent energy future.

How you will spend your days:

You will join a brand-new Embedded Energy engineering team, building an entirely new product area from the ground up. Nothing here is "already defined" - you will be part of establishing the architecture, shaping technical direction, and delivering the first live versions of features that will scale across multiple markets.
You'll work across frontend and backend development, collaborating closely with product managers and fellow engineers to design and deliver new features at pace. Because this area moves quickly, you should expect short feedback loops, rapid experimentation, and regular iteration.
A large part of the role involves hands-on work with data and integrations: ingesting EV charging data, connecting to utility APIs, building logic that calculates rebates, and developing resilient services that work in fragmented energy markets.
Our backend uses a microservices architecture hosted in Microsoft Azure and primarily written in C#. On the frontend, we currently use Angular.

Who we think you are:

  • You lean toward backend development, especially within the .NET ecosystem, but you're comfortable contributing to the frontend when needed.

  • You naturally think in terms of features, systems, and data flows rather than strict role boundaries.

  • You work well in environments where not everything is defined yet.

  • You like building things from the ground up, making decisions, taking ownership, and keeping things moving in a collaborative environment.

  • You enjoy digging into complex problems, understanding how different systems fit together, and designing solutions that can scale across markets.

  • You appreciate having both freedom and responsibility. You don't expect micromanagement - instead, you bring curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to ask questions. You're comfortable learning as you go and helping shape the direction of the work.

  • You're a collaborative team member who cares about quality, communication, and contributing to a mission that has real impact.

What brought you here:

  • 4+yrs experience with .NET, C# and .NET Core.

  • 2+yrs of hands-on experience with frontend development (Angular, React or TypeScript).

  • An interest in automation, with experience using tools like Azure DevOps and Azure Pipelines.

  • Curiosity about and experience with AI tools and technologies.

  • Experience working with Azure or similar cloud platforms.

  • Practical experience with enterprise integration platforms.

  • Strong communication skills (Internal and external stakeholders)

What we bring to the table:

  • Make a Real Impact - Help energy utilities/retail and other industries accelerate the clean energy transition while improving end-customer experience.

  • Collaborate with a Talented Team - Join a mission-driven company with a culture of innovation, ownership, and growth.

  • 25 business days of annual vacation

  • Annual team events together with our colleagues from Sweden, UK, and Lithuania

  • Monthly salary range from 60000 to 67000 SEK gross

  • Wellness and education allowance

This is a small team co-located in the same office in Gothenburg, Sweden, so the expectation would be that you're keen to work in the office most of the time. We do have a company policy of flexible working hours and hybrid work (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays are in-office days for the whole company).

If you read this far, it's time to apply:

We think you're excited to work with a team that moves fast, takes risks, and comes to work every day motivated to build solutions that impact millions of people. If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you!

Please apply with your CV in English.
