Job description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the books and records for select Affiliates for the Affiliate Department, including recording and processing of financial information, preparing financial reports and ledgers, and reconciling accounts. The Staff Accountant will also assist the Accounting Manager with research and resolution of discrepancies. The Staff Accountant can also expect to handle communications with vendors and internal departments.
***Positions are located on and worked from campus in Winter Park, Florida.***
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Process supplier invoices for payment, ensuring proper coding and approvals
  • Post tenant receipts and reconcile accounts receivable
  • Record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
  • Close books timely each month, ensuring all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and reviewed
  • Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP within the required timeframe to ensure deadlines are met
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports for internal and external use
  • Communicate and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors, and other vendor communications
  • Other duties and projects as assigned

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: No
Competencies:
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting practices, procedures, and GAAP
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively multitask, managing multiple projects and deadlines

Education and/or Experience:
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in accounting
  • Property management accounting experience preferred
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business or accounting an advantage

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • n/a

Computer/Equipment Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Significant experience with ERP systems
  • Workday experience preferred

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active customer and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system; enter alphanumeric data into a computerized system often while listening on the telephone. (May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.)
