Responsibilities
The OPS Media & Communications Assistant's core responsibilities involve assisting the College of Law's Communications Team with media pitches, list and asset management, and digital engagement efforts. There are opportunities within this to help support the Communications Team in executing day-to-day operations and laying the foundation for advanced communications strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Media Relations: Gain foundational knowledge of media relations, news cycles, and industry-specific influential figures. Build and maintain media lists. Clip and customize spotlights and pitches for targeted delivery to enhance media pick-up. Compile and record earned monthly media coverage. Assist in brainstorming and planning sessions for pitches, content ideas, and coordinating article features during weekly meetings. Receive and review inbound media inquiries.
  • Research: Thoroughly research journalists, media contacts, publications, guest speakers, presenters, external articles on rankings, and alumni stories. Stay on top of current events, emerging topics, and media trends to inform the Communications team of media and/or content opportunities.
  • Content and Editorial Writing: Support the editorial calendar and content pipeline. Develop and write media alerts, press materials: fact sheets, press releases, blurbs, bios/features, and build newsletters and email marketing campaigns. Ghostwrite as needed for video scripts, social captions, articles, talking points, etc. Assist with editing and proofreading messaging for the College of Law. Collaborate with the Communications Team to ensure cohesive messaging and timely communication. Collaborate with the Communications Team and other departments, when needed, to review content and ensure language is clear, engaging, and aligned with the content's end goal.
  • Maintain Brand Consistency: Ensure all digital content aligns with the College's brand identity and messaging guidelines. Provide constructive feedback on teammates' work and assist other departments with asset gathering and/or development, aligning with brand guidelines.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience.
  • Currently seeking a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills, including AP writing style.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and multitask multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
Bonus if:
  • You have graphic design experience using tools like Canva, Photoshop, or other tools.
  • You have video editing experience.
  • You have email marketing experience.
  • You have HTML website development experience.
  • Or, you have experience using analytic and web monitoring tools.
