What are Frontend Developers?

Frontend Developers are professionals who design and build the user-facing parts of websites and web applications. They use technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and visually appealing interfaces that users interact with directly in their browsers. Frontend Developers work closely with designers and backend developers to ensure a seamless and responsive user experience across different devices and platforms. Their role often includes optimizing website performance, ensuring accessibility, and maintaining code quality.

What is the difference between Frontend Developer vs Web Designer?

AspectFrontend DeveloperWeb Designer
Primary FocusBuilding and coding website interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScriptDesigning visual layout, user experience, and aesthetics
Skills & CertificationsHTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks, coding skillsDesign tools (Photoshop, Sketch), UX/UI principles
Work EnvironmentCollaborates with developers and backend teams in tech settingsWorks with clients, marketing teams, and creative departments
Industry UsageWeb development companies, tech firms, startupsDesign agencies, marketing firms, freelance projects

While both roles contribute to website creation, a Frontend Developer focuses on coding and implementing interactive features, whereas a Web Designer emphasizes visual design and user experience. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job search focus.

How do Frontend Developers typically collaborate with designers and backend teams during a project?

Frontend Developers regularly work closely with UX/UI designers to ensure that visual elements are accurately translated into interactive web pages and applications. They also coordinate with backend developers to integrate APIs and manage data flow between the server and the user interface. Regular meetings, code reviews, and collaborative tools like version control systems help streamline communication and maintain consistency across the project. This teamwork is essential to deliver a cohesive and high-performing end product.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Frontend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Frontend Developer, you need a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React or Angular, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), responsive design tools, and web performance optimization techniques is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving abilities help you build intuitive, user-friendly interfaces and collaborate effectively with design and backend teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality, interactive web applications that meet user and business needs.

Job description

Our Software Development Team is growing, and we are seeking a professional, highly experienced Senior Full Stack Developer to join our team. We are looking for a "Developer's Developer"-someone with deep roots in the Microsoft stack who also possesses a refined eye for User Experience and modern frontend architecture.
In this role, you will maintain the software that powers our eCommerce platforms while simultaneously leading the effort to standardize our UI tooling and modernize our frontend processes. You will report directly to the Software Development and QA Manager and play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between complex backend logic, cloud infrastructure, and the end-user experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Full Stack Engineering & Architecture
  • Lead the development of large, complex client-server and web-based applications using C# .NET (Core 6+) and Microsoft SQL Server / Azure SQL.
  • Design and implement scalable REST APIs, ensuring seamless integration with frontend components.
  • Write testable, efficient code and collaborate with QA teams to maintain high software quality.

UI/UX Strategy & Standardization (Key Focus)
  • Own the Frontend Standards: Lead the initiative to standardize UI tooling, libraries, and development processes across the team to ensure consistency.
  • Translate business requirements and UX designs into responsive, high-fidelity user interfaces.
  • Mentor the team on frontend best practices, moving beyond basic HTML/CSS to robust, component-driven architectures.

DevOps & Cloud Operations
  • Manage and optimize our cloud footprint, primarily within Azure (App Services, Function Apps, API Management) with auxiliary instances in AWS.
  • Drive the maturity of our Azure DevOps processes, including managing CI/CD pipelines, build agents, and release strategies.
  • Monitor application performance and troubleshoot production issues in a distributed cloud environment.

Other essential duties and responsibilities:
  • A "Bridge Builder": You can talk database schemas with backend engineers and pixel-perfect design with UX stakeholders.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills; comfortable mentoring other developers and influencing development practices.
  • Self-Starter: Ability to prioritize conflicting demands in a fast-paced environment and work independently on multiple project teams.
  • Curious: Very eager to learn and grow technically, particularly in keeping up with the rapidly changing Azure and .NET landscapes.

Required Technical Skills:
  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience developing web applications and coding complex software.
  • Core Frameworks: Deep mastery of C# and .NET Core 6+ / .NET Framework.
  • Frontend & UX: Strong proficiency in modern web development. You must have experience not just "using" UI tools, but selecting and standardizing them (e.g., establishing component libraries, setting up CSS pre-processors, or managing JS frameworks).
  • Database: Proficiency with SQL Server, writing and optimizing complex SQL queries, and using Entity Framework.
  • Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, and configuring pipelines in Azure DevOps.
  • Methodology: Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum development methods.

Preferred & Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, RDS).
  • Experience with specific frontend frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue) is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Azure Service Bus and OAuth2/OpenID Connect.
  • Experience maintaining CMS or eCommerce platforms
