Front End Manager information

What is a front end manager?

Front End Managers are responsible for overseeing the customer-facing operations of a retail store, particularly the checkout and service areas. They supervise cashiers, handle customer inquiries or complaints, ensure efficient workflow at registers, and maintain a positive shopping experience for customers. Front End Managers also manage staff scheduling, train new employees, and ensure compliance with store policies and procedures. Their role is crucial in maintaining smooth, efficient, and courteous service at the store's front end.

What does a front end manager do?

As a Front End Manager, your main duties and responsibilities will focus on overseeing the public areas of a retail store. This includes training and managing your sales staff, directing the physical layout and display presentation of the sales floor, and meeting with customers and serving their needs. Everything from the initial impression of the store to customer engagement with merchandise depends on the setting you establish. You might make inventory decisions determined, in large part, by the feedback you receive. Store profit and loss can depend heavily on your decisions regarding merchandising, store aesthetics, and customer service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a front end manager?

To thrive as a Front End Manager, you need experience in retail operations, supervisory skills, and knowledge of cash handling procedures, usually supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, scheduling software, and inventory management tools is typically required. Strong leadership, problem-solving abilities, and excellent customer service skills help you effectively manage staff and address customer concerns. These skills and qualities are important to ensure efficient store operations, high team morale, and a positive customer experience.

What are some common challenges faced by front end managers in maintaining team efficiency and customer satisfaction?

Front End Managers often juggle multiple responsibilities, such as ensuring smooth checkout operations, managing cashier schedules, and resolving customer concerns promptly. A major challenge is balancing staff coverage during peak hours while maintaining high morale and productivity. Additionally, they must address unexpected issues like register malfunctions or customer disputes efficiently, all while upholding store policies and delivering excellent service. Effective communication and adaptability are key for overcoming these challenges and fostering a positive work environment.

The main difference between a Front End Manager and a Front End Developer lies in their roles. Both roles require strong front end skills, but the manager role emphasizes coordination and management.

Is a front end manager a stressful job?

A front end manager role can be stressful due to responsibilities such as overseeing team performance, meeting sales targets, and managing customer service issues. The job often requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations in a retail environment.

Job description

We are the leading provider of professional services to the middle market globally, our purpose is to instill confidence in a world of change, empowering our clients and people to realize their full potential. Our exceptional people are the key to our unrivaled, inclusive culture and talent experience and our ability to be compelling to our clients. You'll find an environment that inspires and empowers you to thrive both personally and professionally. There's no one like you and that's why there's nowhere like RSM.

We are seeking a Manager, Power Platform & Modern FrontEnd Engineering to lead the delivery and evolution of enterprisegrade solutions built on Microsoft Power Platform, with a strong emphasis on modern frontend technology stacks such as React, Angular, and Next.js.

This role sits at the intersection of lowcode acceleration and modern web engineering. You will be responsible for guiding teams that build scalable, usercentric applications by combining Power Platform capabilities with contemporary frontend frameworks, Azure services, and AIassisted development practices.

The ideal candidate is both a handson technical leader and a people manager, comfortable setting direction, reviewing architecture, mentoring developers, and ensuring delivery excellence across client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the design and delivery of solutions leveraging:

    • Power Apps (ModelDriven, Canvas, Power Pages)

    • Power Automate

    • Dataverse

    • Dynamics 365

  • Guide teams in integrating Power Platform solutions with modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Next.js) and Azurehosted services.

  • Establish architectural patterns for:

    • Frontend extensibility

    • APIbased integrations

    • Secure and scalable deployments

  • Drive adoption of AIassisted development (e.g., Copilot, code generation, system analysis) to accelerate delivery and improve quality.

  • Review designs, code, and solutions to ensure they meet enterprise standards for performance, security, and maintainability.

People & Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of Power Platform and frontend developers.

  • Provide technical coaching on:

    • Modern JavaScript frameworks

    • Power Platform best practices

    • Blended lowcode / procode solutions

  • Support staffing, utilization, and skills development across your team.

  • Partner with Architects and team leads to ensure consistent delivery quality and technical alignment.

Client Engagement & Solution Strategy

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients, helping them:

    • Understand when Power Platform is the right fit

    • Blend Power Platform with custom frontend solutions where appropriate

  • Lead technical discovery, solution shaping, and early prototyping efforts.

  • Communicate tradeoffs clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Ensure client solutions are built with longterm scalability and maintainability in mind.

Practice & Capability Growth

  • Contribute to the evolution of Power Platform accelerators, reusable components, and delivery standards.

  • Help shape governance, ALM, and DevOps practices for Power Platform + frontend solutions.

  • Stay current with emerging trends in:

    • Power Platform

    • Modern frontend frameworks

    • Azure and AIenabled development

  • Share learnings across the practice to elevate overall capability.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in application development or solution delivery.

  • Handson experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse).

  • Strong experience with modern frontend technologies, including:

    • React (required)

    • Angular and/or Next.js (preferred)

  • Solid understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, REST APIs, and modern UI patterns.

  • Experience integrating Power Platform with custom frontend applications and Azure services.

  • Prior experience leading or mentoring development teams.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts for business audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Dynamics 365 customization and extension.

  • Familiarity with Azure services (Functions, App Services, API Management).

  • Experience with CI/CD and ALM for Power Platform and web applications.

  • Exposure to AIassisted development tools and practices.

  • Consulting or clientfacing delivery experience.

What Success Looks Like

  • Teams deliver faster by effectively combining Power Platform and modern frontend stacks.

  • Solutions are scalable, maintainable, and architecturally sound.

  • Developers are growing in both lowcode and procode skillsets.

  • Clients view the team as strategic partners, not just implementers.

  • The practice continues to lead-not react-as technology and delivery models evolve.
