What is the difference between Mid Frontend Developer vs Junior Frontend Developer?

AspectMid Frontend DeveloperJunior Frontend Developer
Experience2-4 years0-1 year
SkillsProficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, frameworks like React or Angular, and basic version controlBasic knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and some frameworks
ResponsibilitiesDeveloping features, optimizing performance, collaborating with designers and backend teamsAssisting in coding, fixing bugs, learning project workflows
Work EnvironmentIndependent task handling, code reviews, team collaboration

The Mid Frontend Developer typically has more experience and handles complex tasks independently, while the Junior Frontend Developer focuses on learning, assisting, and gaining foundational skills. The mid-level role requires a deeper understanding of frameworks and project workflows, making it suitable for those with some professional experience in frontend development.

What are Mid Frontend Developers?

Mid Frontend Developers are professionals who specialize in building and maintaining the user-facing parts of web applications, typically with 2-4 years of experience. They are responsible for translating design mockups into interactive websites or apps using technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and backend developers, optimizing applications for speed and responsiveness, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Unlike junior developers, mid-level developers are expected to work more independently, solve moderately complex problems, and contribute to code reviews and project planning.

What are some common challenges faced by mid-level frontend developers when working on cross-functional teams?

Mid-level frontend developers often collaborate with backend developers, designers, and product managers, which can sometimes lead to challenges in communication and aligning on project requirements. Balancing the need for delivering visually appealing, responsive interfaces while ensuring performance and accessibility can also be demanding. Additionally, adapting to evolving frameworks or integrating new tools as decided by the team may require continuous learning and flexibility. Successful mid-level frontend developers proactively seek feedback, clarify requirements early, and stay updated on best practices to navigate these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Frontend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with experience in modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI design libraries is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help you stand out in team settings. These skills ensure you can create high-quality, user-friendly interfaces that work well in dynamic, cross-functional development environments.

Job description

Build and scale features that power Achievers Celebrate, a platform designed to help organizations celebrate the moments that matter and never miss employee milestones. You'll contribute to systems that automate service awards, enable personalized celebration cards, and support recognition across onboarding, anniversaries, and key career moments.

As a Senior Frontend Engineer at Achievers, you are a force multiplier. You possess an AI-first mentality: you actively leverage modern AI tools to accelerate your workflow, and you are excited about integrating intelligent, generative features into the UI/UX. You care deeply about accessibility (WCAG), elegant architecture, and solving complex problems at scale. You don't just write code; you take deep ownership, drive architectural decisions, mentor your peers, and embrace innovation and learning from failure.
Why you'll love this role:
  • High impact work: contribute to key strategic initiatives.
  • Work on greenfield projects: full ownership of the UI and a real chance to shape product direction from day one.
  • Ownership & autonomy: be the go-to engineer for all front-end deliverables, with the freedom to build, experiment, and move fast.
  • AI-first development: work in a fast-moving environment using tools like Claude and Gemini to prototype and ship quickly.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: partner closely with your Product Manager, and Designer to make meaningful product decisions.
  • Top-Tier Developer Experience (DX):we believe in removing friction. We will equip you with the best AI tools so you can focus on creative problem-solving, not boilerplate.
  • Impact:you will have a loud voice in architectural decisions and the opportunity to introduce groundbreaking tech to our stack.
  • Culture:we celebrate shipping daily, learning from failures, and taking care of our team members.
  • Massive learning opportunity: join projects where discovery, innovation, and continuous growth are part your of the day-to-day.
How you'll shape our software engineering practices:
  • Architect & Own:lead the technical design, architecture, and development of highly innovative product features with a relentless focus on UX, UI, and accessibility (WCAG guidelines).
  • Embrace AI-Driven Development:champion an AI-first engineering culture. Utilize and advocate for modern AI developer tools and models (likeGCP Gemini Code AssistandClaude) to write clean, scalable code faster, automate boilerplate, and generate living software documentation.
  • Rapid Prototyping & Scalable Architecture:collaborate deeply with UI/UX designers to rapidly prototype AI-enhanced user experiences. Architect and translate these designs into scalable UI micro frontends and robust, reusable component libraries to accelerate feature delivery across the platform.
  • Drive Engineering Excellence:Lead by example in GitHub. Drive the PR process, conduct high-level code reviews (leveraging AI review tools where applicable), and continuously improve our CI/CD pipelines to ensure we ship robust code multiple times a day.
  • Master a Modern Tech Stack:use the right tool for the job. You will be building scalable micro frontend architectures utilizingReact, while interacting with a backend ecosystem powered by Python, Go, GraphQL, Kubernetes, Docker, Google Pub/Sub, and GCP.
  • Mentor & Elevate:actively mentor mid-level and junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and technical curiosity.
Experience we feel will set you up for success:
  • Experience:5+ years of relevant professional frontend software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering complex web applications at scale using JavaScript, React, and Redux.
  • The AI Workflow Advantage:you have a strong, demonstrated habit of utilizing AI tools (such as Claude and GCP Gemini Code Assist) throughout the SDLC to drastically improve your velocity, code quality, and overall daily developer workflow.
  • Advanced professional experience withReact, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, and state management  and a commitment to building inclusive software. Experience designing and scaling micro frontend architectures is a massive plus.
  • Agile Communicator:excellent written and verbal communication skills. You can explain complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders and thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
  • Quality Focused:strong advocate for Test-Driven Development (TDD). Extensive experience with modern unit testing and UI/E2E testing frameworks.
  • Polyglot Mindset:excellent programming skills with the ability to quickly learn and navigate other languages in our stack (Python, Go) when needed.
  • Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent real-world experience.
