Job description

Summer Front Desk Support Volunteers assist Mi Casa Resource Center in maintaining a welcoming, organized, and supportive front desk environment during the busy summer months. Volunteers work alongside a dedicated front desk staff member, providing additional support to ensure community members are assisted efficiently and warmly.

This opportunity is ideal for high school or college students, school-required volunteers, or individuals with afternoon availability during the summer who want to build professional skills while supporting a mission-driven organization.

Role Overview

Volunteers do not cover the front desk independently. Instead, they support staff by helping manage visitor flow, organizing materials, and assisting with light administrative and customer service tasksโ€”especially during peak hours and summer programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet community members and visitors with a friendly, professional presence
  • Support front desk staff during busy periods (check-ins, sign-ins, directions)
  • Help prepare and organize materials for summer programs and events
  • Answer basic questions and refer visitors to the appropriate staff member
  • Keep the front desk area and resource materials organized
  • Provide general office and administrative support as needed

Ideal For

  • Students on summer break seeking meaningful volunteer experience
  • Volunteers earning community service or school-required hours
  • Individuals interested in nonprofit operations, customer service, or community engagement

Skills & Experience Gained

  • Professional communication and customer service skills
  • Exposure to front-office operations in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience working in a bilingual, multicultural environment
  • Flexible, supportive volunteering experience with staff guidance
