Summary

The Radiology Transporter Assistant supports the Radiology Department by safely transporting patients to and from imaging areas, preparing rooms and equipment, assisting technologists with basic tasks, and ensuring a smooth workflow. This position plays a key role in patient comfort, safety, and overall departmental efficiency.

The Radiology Transporter Assistant is expected to perform the following essential functions:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist radiologic technologists in transferring images to outside facilities and ensuring timely delivery to the reading radiologist group
  • Send previous exams and related reports to facilitate comparison and improve diagnostic accuracy
  • Provide clerical support, including data entry, document scanning, and maintaining accurate patient records
  • Answer phone calls and manage inquiries from patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance will all regulatory and safety protocols within the radiology department
  • Safely transport patients to and from the Radiology Department using wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds.
  • Assist patients with transfers, positioning, and mobility while maintaining safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff and technologists regarding patient readiness, delays, or special needs.
  • Prepare exam rooms between patients, including cleaning surfaces and ensuring proper supplies and linens are available.
  • Assist technologists with non-clinical tasks such as:
  • Moving equipment
  • Restocking supplies
  • Escorting ambulatory patients
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers and ensure safe handoff procedures.
  • Provide reassurance and customer-focused support to patients and families.
  • Maintain and disinfect patient transport equipment per infection control standards.
  • Respond to requests for urgent transport in a timely and safe manner.
  • Follow departmental policies, patient safety protocols, HIPAA regulations, and hospital values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies

Ability to safely lift, transfer, and transport patients of varying sizes. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and respond quickly to department needs. Must be available for flexible scheduling throughout the holiday season. Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to model professionalism, reliability, and positive workplace conduct. Basic computer literacy required; comfort with Microsoft Office and email.
