Radiology Patient Transporter/Clerical

 

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 273-bed acute care facility providing top quality and safe healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities since 1917. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the American Heart Association for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and Stroke, and most recently, coronary artery disease.

Additionally, Aiken Regional provides comprehensive healthcare services such as behavioral health (Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health), emergency medical care (main hospital and ER at Sweetwater), orthopedic surgeries, maternity, rehabilitation services(Hitchcock Rehabilitation Services), imaging, and wound care.

Performs a variety of support functions to facilitate the delivery of services to radiology patients such as transporting patients, maintenance of film records, assisting Radiology Technologists and preparing patient records.

 

Duties:

  1. Answer telephone and directs calls to the appropriate person and takes messages as appropriate.
    2. Greets patients when they arrive in department for exams and notify technologist of patient’s arrival.
    3. Verifies patient order, ordering physician, patient information before entering in computer system, then enter exam in Hospital Information System.
    4. Explains preparations and identify special instructions to patients about their imaging exam.
    5. Sorts, distributes, mails and faxes all reports to the appropriate locations.
    6. Informs technologist and/or Radiologist of STAT or urgent studies; informs technologist of add-on studies.
    7. Retrieves images from PACS following a patient’s encounter with any of the imaging modalities.
    8. Retrieves and searches for images in the PACS system.
    9. Demonstrates ability to navigate through EMR to gather patient information when necessary.
    10. Assist physicians in retrieving images from the PACS system.
    11. Burn disc or print film for physicians, patients and other authorized personnel following departmental policy.
    12. Ensures that correct demographic information is entered in the computer system when checking a patient in.
    13. Ensures that the proper identification and authorization are present before releasing films or reports.
    14. Records on radiology transport slip any pertinent information about patients so as to alert the technologist and transporter.
    15. Transports patients to and from the Radiology department as needed and communicates with patient’s nurse that the T2R is filled out correctly and the patient is signed out in the book on the unit.
    16. Assists the technologists in transferring patients on and off table.
    17. Restocks linen and supplies.
    18. Maintains oxygen tanks, wheelchairs and stretchers.
    19. Calls upcoming PET patients to remind them of their upcoming appointments; ensures that the order and images are uploaded to the HIS/RIS systems
    20. Delivers and retrieves department mail from the hospital mail room.
    21. Prints images on radiographic film for use in the OR when required
    22. Organizes communications that comes in through the main fax machine and printer; posts current RN Floor phone directory.
    23. Regularly accepts additional work during period of low patient activity and willingly assists others in department.
    24. Rotates to other imaging departments as needed; participates in holiday and on-call rotation requirements.
    25. Other duties as assigned
