Job description

Overview
Microsoft AI (MAI) is building the next generation of AI products and the platforms that power them. Operating at the frontier of AI means making privacy decisions that don't always have an established playbook, and doing so at the scale and pace of one of the most closely watched product organizations in the industry.
As a Senior Privacy Product Manager within MAI, you will work across our portfolio of products and services to manage the strategy and execution of the privacy program. You will collaborate with engineering to inform and promote transparency, choice, and privacy management experiences that influence Microsoft's collection and use of personal data. You will contribute to and implement organization-wide processes for incorporating privacy into the product development cycle and engineering systems.
We are searching for a Privacy Product Manager to help drive daily execution of MAI and Microsoft privacy strategy, monitor and assure that privacy standards are met, and develop guidance that helps engineering teams apply Microsoft's Privacy Standards to new MAI scenarios. The right person has a passion for deeply understanding customer needs and protecting customer rights, and brings the judgment to enable the business while doing so. Candidates should have proven experience applying privacy requirements to engineering solutions, going beyond standard risk and compliance management.
Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
  • Be the privacy advisor to engineering teams. Apply your privacy knowledge and background in developing user consents, data collection requirements, recommending data storage and processing approaches, and ensuring MAI products and services meet privacy requirements and business objectives.
  • Translate privacy regulations and standards into actionable engineering requirements.
  • Create and execute privacy compliance plans, working across compliance, business, and engineering teams to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Identify, drive adoption of, and monitor the implementation of new and existing controls as needed for compliance or new regulations.
  • Develop and maintain standards and policies, such as risk assessment templates, audit frameworks, oversight expectations, and reporting metrics.
  • Help educate teams and drive privacy as a mindset across engineering and research teams.
  • Identify and drive privacy program improvements, including process improvements, tooling requirements, and opportunities to improve the experience for engineers.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 5+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated technical and/or feature program management experience.
  • 3+ years of practical experience creating and maintaining compliance programs and conducting privacy reviews.
  • Demonstrated team and project management excellence on medium-to-large scale projects, including managing scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Experience managing privacy, security, or audit compliance related engineering programs.
  • Experience supporting privacy or compliance programs for AI/ML products, large-scale consumer services, or platforms handling personal data at scale.
  • Working knowledge of major privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA) and familiarity with the evolving global AI and data regulatory landscape.
  • Hands-on familiarity with the engineering side of privacy: data flow mapping, data classification, consent infrastructure, DSR tooling, retention enforcement, and telemetry governance.
  • IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior engineering and product leaders without direct authority, and to write crisply for both engineering and executive audiences.
