The Home Medical Equipment Specialist is responsible for the setup, deliver and follow up of home medical equipment.
Job Description
Responsibilities include planning, preparing, delivering/retrieving, setting up and demonstrating use of home medical equipment using established guidelines. Effectively communicate with patients to determine their needs and describe how the medical equipment functions. Maintains a positive relationship with physicians, hospital staff, and patients. Completes thorough and timely documentation of home medical equipment records to meet both regulatory and system requirements. Utilizes and maintains supplies and equipment in cost effective, safe manner, and follows all regulatory requirements related to home medical equipment. Maintains and cleans equipment when returned from anywhere outside of MMC-D HME. Maintains work area and storage that has clear delineation between clean and dirty equipment per The Joint Commission. Runs reports as necessary and maintains logs per the direction of DME leadership. Must maintain continuing education of the position. Participates in on-call, weekend, and holiday scheduling per the department's needs.
Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
Qualifications
Must have at least one year of medical equipment experience. Maturity, ability, and flexibility to effectively meet the requirements of the position. Excellent communication, time management, and people skills. Must be able to meet the physical demands of equipment delivery, pick up and maintenance. Ability to travel in all road conditions for a considerable portion of each workday and walk on all types of terrain (including stairs) while transporting medical equipment to various patient settings. Driving/delivery experience preferred.
BCLS required within 30 days of hire/transfer. Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and have a driving record without a significant history of accidents and/or convictions of moving violations.
