Senior Software Engineer / Healthcare Integration Developer

Position Summary

The Software Engineer / Healthcare Integration Developer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and supporting software applications and healthcare integration solutions that improve operational performance, streamline workflows, and enable secure, reliable data exchange across healthcare platforms. This role combines hands-on software engineering expertise with deep healthcare industry knowledge, particularly within the Hospice Durable Medical Equipment (DME) environment.

The ideal candidate possesses strong full-stack development and integration skills along with 10+ years of Hospice DME industry experience, enabling them to understand the unique operational, clinical, and logistical challenges faced by hospice organizations and DME providers. This individual will collaborate closely with hospice care teams, clinical staff, operations leaders, customer service representatives, delivery personnel, billing teams, and external healthcare partners to develop solutions that enhance patient care, improve operational efficiency, and support regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Engineering

• Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain healthcare software applications using PHP, Laravel, SQL, JavaScript, and related technologies.

• Build scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions that support business operations, clinical workflows, and customer-facing applications.

• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, documentation, and support.

• Develop reporting, automation, and workflow optimization solutions that improve productivity and service delivery. Healthcare Integration & Interoperability

• Design, implement, and support RESTful APIs and system integrations connecting internal applications with healthcare platforms such as Epic, Netsmart, MatrixCare, Hospice Tools, and other healthcare technologies.

• Develop and maintain HL7-based interoperability solutions and healthcare data exchange processes.

• Analyze data flow requirements and ensure the secure, accurate, and timely exchange of patient, clinical, operational, and billing information.

• Troubleshoot integration issues and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve data and workflow challenges.

Production Support & Continuous Improvement

• Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, infrastructure, and integration issues in production environments.

• Monitor system performance and recommend improvements that enhance reliability, scalability, and user experience.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system upgrades, enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.

• Apply Agile, DevOps, and continuous improvement principles to support efficient software delivery and operational excellence.

• Knowledge of hospice EMR/EHR platforms including MatrixCare, Netsmart, Epic, and Hospice Tools.

• Experience with HL7, Mirth Connect, and healthcare interoperability standards.

• Understanding of healthcare regulations, privacy requirements, and data security best practices.
