Job description

The Rigid Printer Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining printing equipment used in the production of rigid packaging materials, specifically cups. This position ensures high-quality printed products through precise machine operation, quality control, and adherence to safety protocols. The role requires technical expertise in printing processes, color management, and equipment maintenance while maintaining production efficiency and meeting quality standards. The operator works collaboratively within a team environment to achieve production goals while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun 7PM-7AM
$2.50 per hour shift differential when working from 7pm to 7am.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain machines in good working order by cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting.

  • Examine printed copy for correct ink density, position on cups and registration.

  • Set appropriate speeds, flows, colors, temperatures, and positions for printing.

  • Examine and produce specific job orders.

  • Verify ink specifications, ink presses, change ink and adjust ink flow.

  • Meet production schedules and throughput yield targets.

  • Collaborate with other technicians to diagnose equipment breakdowns and address quality issues.

  • Post and adhere to lockout/tagout, hazardous material handling and hearing and eye standards.

  • Keep records of materials used and time needed for projects.

  • Maintain data on printing outputs produced, supplies consumed, and equipment maintenance and repairs performed.

  • Follow cup print quality standards for the printer start-up and acceptance testing.

  • Perform quality checks.

  • Foster an environment focused on safety, including but not limited to: performing machine safety audits, behavior-based safety observations, identifying near misses and opportunities for improvement, driving associate engagement on shift, and performing lock out tag out procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred
Stable work history
Previous printing experience a plus (Dry offset, Flexographic or Rotogravure)
Previous experience on Polytype or Van Dam cup printers a plus
Required Skills:
  • Basic computer proficiency including email

  • Ability to use Industry standard tools (pneumatic and electrical)

  • Accurately read and use measuring tools

  • Self-directed and task-oriented with the ability to multitask

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & TRAVEL:
Physical Demands: The associate will be exposed to the manufacturing environment where hazards and requirements may include but are not limited to:
  • Capability to lift and move up to 65 pounds

  • Ability to climb, kneel, bend, and squat

  • Proficiency in grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine motor skills

  • Ability to climb ladders safely

  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods

  • Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, steel-toe shoes, safety glasses)

  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain forklift and motorized pallet jack certification

Travel Requirements: Travel is not required in this position.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Work Conditions: The majority of tasks will be performed in a manufacturing setting with potential exposure to:
  • Noise levels above 85 dB

  • Operation of complex machinery

  • Solvents, fumes and inks within the plant

  • Variable Temperatures

  • Must be able to work flexible shifts

  • May require nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • An additional $2.50/hr. premium between the hours of 7pm-7am. Any hours worked outside of 7pm-7am will not receive the premium.
