Job Description Operations Manager - White Plains, NYPosition SummaryThe Global Ocean Freight (GOF) team is responsible for the commercial and operational management of ADM-controlled dry bulk vessels worldwide. Acting as the primary liaison between vessel owners, charterers, port agents, terminals, and internal business partners, the team ensures the safe, efficient, compliant, and cost-effective execution of global voyages.The Operations Manager manages the day-to-day commercial operation of assigned vessels throughout the voyage lifecycle. Responsibilities include voyage execution, bunker procurement, cargo planning, agency management, laytime and freight settlement, claims resolution, regulatory compliance, voyage optimization, and performance monitoring. This role requires strong commercial judgment, technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to make timely decisions in a fast-paced 24/7 global shipping environment.Key ResponsibilitiesManage the commercial and operational execution of 7-10 dry bulk vessels.Provide timely and accurate voyage instructions to Masters and monitor execution from fixture through redelivery.Coordinate cargo loading, stowage planning, discharge operations and maximize cargo intake while maintaining safety and compliance.Procure bunkers and optimize fuel strategy considering cost, emissions and voyage performance.Appoint, manage and evaluate port agents while controlling agency costs and service quality.Calculate and settle laytime, freight, demurrage and associated voyage accounts.Investigate, negotiate and resolve operational disputes and commercial claims.Monitor voyage KPIs including schedule reliability, fuel consumption, emissions, turnaround time and voyage profitability.Collaborate with Chartering, Trade, Risk, Finance, Sustainability and regional teams to deliver exceptional customer service.Drive continuous improvement initiatives, standard operating procedures and operational best practices.Provide after-hours operational support as required.Required SkillsExcellent written and verbal communication.Strong commercial awareness and analytical problem-solving.Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.Independent decision-making supported by sound judgment.Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency; experience with voyage management systems.Relationship management with owners, brokers, terminals and service providers.Commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement.Experience & QualificationsBachelor's degree or equivalent maritime experience.Master Mariner, Deck Officer license or sailing experience preferred.Minimum seven years operating dry bulk vessels.Experience with IMOS, Softmar, Veson or similar systems.Experience with bunker procurement, voyage accounting and DA Desk preferred.Knowledge of IMO regulations, charter parties, emissions programs and industry best practices.Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.Our OfferOpportunity to work within a global industry-leading agricultural and nutrition company.High degree of ownership and responsibility.Collaborative culture focused on innovation and continuous learning.Excellent opportunities for professional growth and career development.Excited about this role but don't think you meet every requirement listed?
