API Developer (Python/AWS) | Workday Finance Integration Platform

Hybrid role

Compensation: $60 - $70 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced API Developer with strong Python and AWS expertise to help expand and enhance their enterprise API platform supporting the Finance & Accounting organization. This role is pivotal in scaling a custom-built integration framework that currently supports Workday Finance and will evolve into a reusable enterprise platform serving multiple applications across the organization. The API Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and support scalable API solutions, build reusable services and integrations, and transform the integration framework into a robust, enterprise-grade platform. The team supports several critical Finance & Accounting platforms, including Workday Finance (recently implemented), BlackLine, and other systems supporting enterprise operations. The integration ecosystem currently includes 40+ interfaces and over 100 integrations across enterprise systems, with a custom-built API platform serving as the gateway for data ingestion and extraction. The next phase is to transform this framework to support additional applications, lifecycle management, and future business needs. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on engineer with a product-oriented mindset, strong foundation in API development, cloud-native architecture, and modern software engineering practices, who is comfortable working in an evolving environment and contributing to long-term architectural improvements.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Design, develop, and support scalable API solutions using Python and AWS
  • Enhance and extend the existing API framework and platform capabilities
  • Build reusable services, components, and integrations for multiple applications
  • Design secure, reliable, and maintainable APIs following modern engineering best practices
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, architecture, product, and business stakeholders
  • Participate in solution design discussions and contribute to platform roadmap planning
  • Ensure solutions meet performance, operational, security, and scalability requirements
  • Support CI/CD processes, deployment automation, and infrastructure-as-code initiatives
  • Contribute to ongoing platform enhancements and long-term architectural improvements
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude, to improve delivery speed and quality
  • Take ownership of technical solutions from design through delivery
  • Collaborate effectively across onshore and offshore teams
  • Drive the evolution of a strategic enterprise integration platform for Finance & Accounting systems
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Strong experience developing applications and services with Python
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and integration solutions
  • Hands‑on experience with AWS services and cloud-native application development
  • Experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Experience with GitLab and CI/CD pipeline management
  • Understanding of API security, scalability, monitoring, and operational best practices
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with serverless and event‑driven architectures (preferred)
  • Experience with AWS services such as API Gateway, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch (preferred)
  • Understanding of observability, monitoring, and platform operations (preferred)
  • Experience building reusable frameworks or internal developer platforms (preferred)
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude (preferred)
  • Experience supporting enterprise finance, accounting, ERP, or integration platforms (preferred)
  • Product-oriented mindset with focus on platform scalability and long‑term maintainability
  • Ability to think beyond individual features to platform scalability and long‑term strategy
