Job description

A day in the field

By 8 a.m., you’re on-site at a NY/NJ facility, laptop open, tracing control circuits and validating parameters across a newly installed VFD. By noon, a quick call with management to align on service priorities. By afternoon, you’ve commissioned a multi-brand drive, documented performance, and coached a client through upgrade options—all while keeping safety front and center. If that sounds like your kind of day, MIH Systems Group wants to meet you.

About MIH Systems Group

MIH Systems Group is growing in the building commissioning space, making complex buildings run smarter and more efficiently. Our consulting team supports commissioning for both new and existing facilities from design through operations, and our technical services team performs start-ups on sophisticated HVAC equipment from many manufacturers. We’re a group of industry-leading professionals focused on logistical, energy, and cost-effective outcomes for our clients.

The role

We’re seeking a Senior VFD specialist to install, troubleshoot, and commission Variable Frequency Drives throughout the NY/NJ area. You’ll own field diagnostics, respond to breakdowns, perform preventative maintenance, and recommend upgrades.

What you’ll tackle

  • Partner with leadership to keep the service department efficient—smart staffing, strong customer retention, cost control, and meeting targets.
  • Build trusted relationships that encourage repeat and referral work.
  • Deliver high-quality repairs that minimize callbacks.
  • Keep customers and management updated on progress, risks, and resolutions.
  • Offer compliant options for additional service and scope per established protocols.
  • Lead with safety—consistently follow procedures and protect yourself and others.
What you bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with VFDs from multiple manufacturers.
  • Valid driver’s license; able to lift 50 pounds and work at heights/from a ladder.
  • Strong knowledge of three-phase motors and control circuits.
  • Fluency reading electrical/mechanical drawings, safety rules, O&M manuals; comfortable with P&IDs, fabrication drawings, and electrical schematics.
  • Installation and troubleshooting skills for heating and cooling systems.
  • OSHA 30 and SST credentials.
  • Ability to prepare inspection and appraisal reports.
  • Team-oriented with solid interpersonal and conflict resolution skills; clear written and verbal communication.
  • Mechanical assembly and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Experience programming, calibrating, and configuring 4–20 mA and 0–10 Vdc devices.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bonus: experience with gas detection systems and DriSteem Humidifiers.
Compensation

Estimated Salary: $45 - $64 hourly, with flexibility based on experience and skills.
