Permitting Associate
Compensation: $24-$26 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time
New York State Solar is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven Permitting Associate to join our growing Operations team. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end permitting process for residential solar installations by coordinating with local municipalities, AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction), customers, utility partners, and internal operational teams.
Duties & Responsibilities:
As a Permitting Associate, you will:
• Prepare, submit, and manage residential solar permit applications across multiple AHJs and municipalities
• Review project documentation for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance before submission
• Coordinate directly with building departments, utility companies, inspectors, and permitting offices to obtain permit approvals
• Serve as a liaison between customers, field operations, design, engineering, sales, and installation teams throughout the permitting lifecycle
• Monitor permit pipelines and proactively identify risks, delays, or missing documentation that may impact installation timelines
• Track project milestones and maintain accurate records within internal CRM and project management systems
• Research and adapt to changing municipal requirements, zoning regulations, and permitting processes
• Resolve permit rejections, corrections, and escalations in a timely and professional manner
• Communicate project status updates and expectations clearly to both internal stakeholders and customers
• Support continuous process improvement initiatives to increase permitting efficiency, quality, and turnaround times
• Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail while managing a large volume of active projects
• Partner closely with field operations teams to ensure permit packages align with installation requirements and jurisdictional standards
