Commissioning Manager Utility-Scale Solar PV & BESS Projects

Basis North America is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to support utility-scale power generation projects, with a strong focus on Solar PV and BESS commissioning activities.
This position requires a senior commissioning professional with proven experience leading commissioning execution, coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders, and ensuring successful energization and performance validation of large-scale renewable energy assets.
Key Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated commissioning leadership on power generation projects.
Direct experience managing commissioning activities for utility-scale Solar PV plants is required. Experience with BESS systems / Battery Energy Storage Systems is highly preferred and will be considered a critical advantage.
The ideal candidate must have proven experience coordinating commissioning activities with:
  • EPC Contractors
  • OEMs
  • Utilities
  • AHJs / Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Engineering, construction, and operations teams
Candidates must be familiar with formal commissioning processes, including:
  • SAT / Site Acceptance Testing
  • FAT / Factory Acceptance Testing
  • Energization readiness
  • System turnover
  • Punch list management
  • Performance testing
  • Commissioning documentation and reporting
Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage commissioning activities for utility-scale Solar PV projects.
  • Support or manage commissioning activities for integrated BESS systems.
  • Coordinate commissioning execution with EPC Contractors, OEMs, utilities, AHJs, and project stakeholders.
  • Review commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, test packages, and turnover documentation.
  • Verify energization readiness before system startup and grid connection.
  • Oversee SAT, FAT, functional testing, energization, and performance testing activities.
  • Track and resolve commissioning issues, punch list items, technical queries, and field deviations.
  • Ensure commissioning activities are completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and client expectations.
  • Provide leadership to field teams during pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and performance validation phases.
Required Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in commissioning, power generation, renewable energy, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proven commissioning leadership experience on power generation projects.
  • Direct experience with utility-scale Solar PV commissioning.
  • Experience with BESS commissioning is strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with EPC Contractors, OEMs, utilities, and AHJs.
  • Strong knowledge of SAT, FAT, energization readiness, system turnover, and performance testing.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of safety requirements, commissioning documentation, and field execution processes.
Preferred Background

  • Utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Solar PV + BESS integrated projects.
  • Owners Engineer, EPC, commissioning contractor, or technical advisory experience.
  • Experience supporting energization, grid connection, and final performance testing.
