Job description

Federal Medical Coders – Inpatient / Outpatient

Work Schedule is Aligned to PST

· Remote Positions

· Multiple positions available! (Inpatient, Outpatient, Surgery, Audit, Prosthetics)


Core Operation:

· Performance shall be in accordance with the requirements contained in this PWS and all relevant Civilian and VA Handbooks and Directives, to include the Joint Commission (formerly known as Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations or JCAHO), American Medical Association (AMA), American Hospital Association (AHA), Center for Medicare and Medical Services (CMS), coding practices for International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) Clinical Modification (CM-Diagnosis coding), International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) Procedure Coding System (PCS- Facility Inpatient coding), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Evaluation and Management (E/M) Level Coding, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), Title 10 USC 1095, 32 CFR, Part 220 and future updates. The Contracted personnel shall comply with all the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards and VHA Coding Guidelines.

· Ongoing performance monitoring, including audits and both scheduled and unscheduled reviews, is required to ensure timely, accurate, and HIPAA-compliant handling of all requests and disclosures, and to meet VA and Joint Commission metrics for patient information security.

· The Contracted personnel providing services shall comply with and attend Government-provided annual training which will include but is not limited to topics such as compliance, patient safety, performance improvement, risk management, infection control, fire protection, security, patient sensitivity training, automation processing, HIPAA and safety briefings.

· The contract shall at a minimum include procedures to evaluate Contractor implementation of all requirements of the contract and shall include procedures for monitoring timeliness, completeness, and compliance with HIPAA and VHA regulations.

· Access to the network requires Contractor personnel to ensure Privacy Act information and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements are complied with and that they understand their responsibilities towards protecting said information. Compliance with VA Information Assurance (IA), Personnel Security Program, and applicable regulations from other services is mandatory for ADP Sensitive positions

· The government will provide a laptop, two monitors, docking station, keyboard and mouse to the contractor for performance of their contract functions.

Education / Training

· All contracted personnel and subcontractors under this contract or order are required to complete the VA's online Security Awareness Training Course and the Privacy Awareness Training Course annually. Contractors must provide signed certifications of completion during each year of the contract.

· All contracted personnel must complete the VA’s online Security Awareness and Privacy Awareness course before they gain access to PII or any sensitive material and annually thereafter

Certifications – One (1) of the following certifications through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA):

· Certified Professional Coder (CPC), AAPC

· Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS or CCS-P), AHIMA

· Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), AHIMA

· Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), AHIMA

Experience

· Minimum of three (3) years of continuous experience coding in a large health system patient population

· Must know relevant VA software, including Oracle Cerner applications, 3M/Solventum

· Must meet all employment eligibility requirements, including maintaining legal United States citizenship and being proficient in spoken and written English.

Hours and Location of Operation

· The Contractor will be working remotely, providing services Monday-Friday from 7:30 am-4:00 pm. The Contractor shall access VHA Network systems through VPN access in accordance with VHA security and privacy protocols.
