What is a freelance Looker?

A Freelance Looker is a professional who specializes in using Looker, a business intelligence and data analytics platform, on a contract or project basis. They help organizations analyze data, build dashboards, and create reports to support data-driven decisions. Freelance Lookers often work remotely and may assist with data modeling, LookML development, and integrating data sources. Their expertise allows companies to gain insights without hiring a full-time data analyst or Looker developer.

What are some common challenges freelance Looker developers face when working with clients remotely?

Freelance Looker developers often encounter challenges such as gathering clear requirements from clients who may have limited familiarity with data analytics tools. Communication across time zones and ensuring data security with client data sources can also pose challenges. Additionally, freelancers must frequently adapt to different data models and business logic unique to each client, which requires flexibility and strong problem-solving skills. Building trust and maintaining transparency through regular updates and documentation is crucial for successful remote collaborations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance Looker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Looker, you need expertise in data analytics, business intelligence, and a strong grasp of Looker’s data modeling language (LookML), typically supported by experience in SQL and dashboard development. Familiarity with Looker’s platform, including LookML, data visualization tools, and integrating various data sources, is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and client management skills help you effectively translate business needs into actionable insights. These capabilities ensure you deliver valuable, data-driven solutions and maintain productive client relationships in a competitive freelance market.

Job description

The Role

As a Connectivity Operations, you'll support the day-to-day operations that keep our connectivity services running smoothly across global markets. You'll play a critical role in making sure our operations run smoothly - from testing and troubleshooting to SIM logistics and partner coordination. You'll work cross-functionally with teams like Product, Engineering, and Finance - diving into data, improving processes, and helping us solve real-world problems with a bias for execution.

This is a great entry point for someone who wants to grow in operations, strategy, or product at a high-growth startup - and learn the ins and outs of a technically complex, fast-moving business.

Salary range:

  • EU: 70,000 - 100,000
  • UK: 70,000 - 100,000
  • US: $130,000 - 170,000
What You Will Do
  • Support core connectivity operations - help track and coordinate key workflows across carrier onboarding, pricing updates, and performance monitoring.
  • SIM Management and Inventory - Oversee SIM ordering, inventory tracking, and distribution processes across all markets
  • Escalations and Troubleshooting - Take ownership of issue resolution for lower-priority partner escalations. Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g. Product, Support) to triage and resolve connectivity issues
  • Testing and QA - Plan and execute SIM and feature testing across global providers. Coordinate with freelancers or BPOs to manage test execution. Track and report on test coverage, timelines, and results.
  • Work with data - gather and analyze metrics to spot issues, identify trends, and support operational decisions.
  • Improve processes - document workflows, identify bottlenecks, and help implement more scalable solutions.
What You Will Need
  • 2-3 years of experience in an analytical or operational role - whether in tech, consulting, finance, or a high-paced startup.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail - you're comfortable with spreadsheets and picking up new tools quickly (e.g. Notion, Looker, SQL, etc.).
  • Clear written and verbal communication - you know how to keep stakeholders aligned and informed.
  • Proactive, hands-on mindset - you're not afraid to dive into the weeds to get things done.
  • An interest in telecom, APIs, or connectivity is a plus - but curiosity and willingness to learn go even further.
