Job description

This role is intended for structural engineers with experience in building systems, steel structures, or solar support structures. This role requires strong experience applying U.S. structural codes, including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, and/or AISI S100.

Position Summary:ย

The Sr. Structural Systems Engineer is responsible for translating structural system requirements into effective connector solutions and understanding how connector performance influences the structures they join. This is a senior level individual contributor role supporting two business lines: Construction-focused on offsite and modular building systems-and Energies, including utilityscale solar PV tracker systems.ย

The primary objective of the role is to ensure connector designs are grounded in a strong understanding of system behavior, structural demands, and applicable codes and standards. The engineer will support product development and customer integration through rigorous structural analysis, clear engineering rationale, and practical design guidance. The position blends systemlevel structural engineering, codes and standards expertise, product development support, and direct customer engagement.ย

Roles and Responsibilities:ย

  • Analyze global load paths and the interaction between connectors and structural systems.ย
  • Evaluate the impact of connector stiffness, preload, slip behavior, tolerances, and joint geometry on overall system performance.ย
  • Define governing load cases and boundary conditions for:ย ย
  • Offsite, modular, and industrialized construction systems, including floors, walls, roofs, volumetric modules, and facade attachmentsย
  • Utilityscale and commercial solar PV tracker systemsย
  • Translate field conditions, installation sequences, and applicable structural codes into clear and actionable design inputs for Product Engineering and R&D.ย
  • Identify governing failure modes at the connection and subassembly level, including bearing failure, slip, fatigue, preload loss, and localized yielding.ย
  • Perform structural analysis and connectionlevel or subassembly FEA to anticipate potential failure modes prior to physical testing.ย
  • Support the development of validation strategies, test envelopes, and acceptance criteria.ย
  • Provide technical input on fatigue and cyclic loading behavior under wind, seismic, thermal, and operational loading conditions.ย
  • Produce clear, defensible engineering calculations, reports, and justification documents for both internal and external stakeholders.ย
  • Ensure compatibility with applicable codes and standards based on system application, including:ย ย
  • IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, AISI S100; Solar and systemspecific standards such as UL 2703, UL 3703, and ICCES criteriaย
  • Translate code requirements into practical, usable design guidance for product teams and customers.ย
  • Support certification efforts, thirdparty engineering reviews, and interactions with approval authorities as required.ย
  • Serve as a technical interface with customers, including:ย ย
  • Modular builders, general contractors, architects, and developersย
  • Solar EPCs, tracker manufacturers, and system integratorsย
  • Structural engineers and engineering consultantsย
  • Support design reviews, RFIs, technical proposals, and projectspecific structural inquiries.ย

  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Business Development teams.ย
  • Contribute to the development of application guidelines, standard details, and typical connection concepts.ย
  • Help strengthen ARaymond's technical credibility with customers and external partners.ย
  • Other related duties and/or projects as assigned.ย

Education and Experience:ย

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.ย
