Job description

Job Title: Lab Technician

Job Description

This Quality Control Laboratory Technician role supports testing, inspection, and quality assurance activities within an advanced manufacturing environment. You will evaluate raw materials, chemical formulations, in-process production samples, and finished products to ensure they meet established quality standards. In this position, you generate accurate laboratory data, support investigations into quality issues, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product performance and manufacturing reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing and quality inspections on raw materials, in-process production samples, and finished products to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Conduct analytical testing, including viscosity, solids content, density, moisture, conductivity, particle size, and other material performance evaluations.
  • Operate analytical instrumentation to characterize materials and confirm product quality, using equipment such as gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, spectroscopy, and particle size analyzers.
  • Collect and prepare samples in accordance with established testing procedures, standard operating procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Record, analyze, and clearly communicate test results to production, engineering, and quality teams to support decision-making.
  • Verify compliance with product specifications and promptly identify non-conforming materials, processes, or results for further investigation.
  • Perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure reliable operation and data integrity.
  • Support root cause investigations, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and process improvement efforts related to material quality and manufacturing performance.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation, test records, and quality system compliance, ensuring audit-ready data and traceability.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory environment, following safe laboratory practices and applicable quality system requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Associate degree or higher in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Technology, Laboratory Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience in laboratory work, quality control, materials testing, chemical processing, or manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience operating laboratory instrumentation and interpreting analytical test results.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to generate accurate technical documentation and perform data analysis.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.
  • Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality systems, and safe laboratory practices.
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, battery materials, conductive slurries, specialty chemicals, coatings, adhesives, polymers, or advanced materials.
  • Experience performing material characterization, purity analysis, contaminant testing, and solvent analysis.
  • Experience in root cause analysis, CAPA programs, supplier quality, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF, or other regulated quality management systems.
  • Ability to work 3rd shift (8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.) on a rotating schedule.

  • Experience in battery, chemical, coatings, specialty materials, semiconductor, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Proven success working with laboratory instrumentation such as gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, spectroscopy, and rheology tools.
  • Strength in quality investigations and process troubleshooting within a manufacturing setting.
  • Comfort working with conductive slurries, specialty chemicals, and advanced material systems.

Work Environment

This role operates in a controlled laboratory environment within a chemical manufacturing facility. You work primarily on 3rd shift from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., following a rotating schedule of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every other Wednesday, with a 3-on/4-off and 4-on/3-off pattern. The laboratory utilizes advanced analytical technologies, including Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), ICP-OES or ICP-MS, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, particle size analyzers, rheometers and viscometers, moisture analyzers, and conductivity and pH meters. Personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include a respirator, is required when working with certain chemical processes. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and audit readiness, and is part of a growing, startup-style operation that offers room for growth and advancement as the facility expands

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $54080.00 - $54080.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
