What is a freelance floral designer?

A freelance floral designer is a self-employed professional who creates floral arrangements for various occasions such as weddings, events, and corporate functions. Unlike a florist who may work in a flower shop, a freelance floral designer typically works independently, offering customized design services to clients. They may source flowers, design bouquets and centerpieces, and manage event installations. Freelance floral designers often set their own schedules and work with a variety of clients, providing flexibility and creative freedom in their work.

What does a typical workday look like for a freelance floral designer?

A typical workday for a freelance floral designer involves a mix of creative design, client communication, and hands-on arrangement work. Freelancers often start their day sourcing fresh flowers, preparing designs for upcoming events, and consulting with clients to finalize details. They need strong organizational skills to juggle multiple projects, which can include weddings, corporate events, and private parties. Collaboration with event planners, venues, and vendors is common, and flexibility is key due to varying schedules and last-minute changes. Most freelancers also handle their own marketing, scheduling, and invoicing, making time management essential.

Project Manager (3-month contract) - Manhattan, NY

FLOWERBX

Manhattan, NY โ€ข On-site

$5.7K - $6.2K/mo

Contractor

Posted 9 days ago

Job description

Founded in 2015 in London, FLOWERBX is a luxury floral design house with studios across London, New York, Los Angeles, and Dubai. With clients including Gucci, Chanel, and Tiffany & Co., we're known for setting the standard in fashion-led floral design.
FLOWERBX is seeking an experienced project and client management professional to join our B2B team on a three-month contract, running October 5, 2026 through January 8, 2027, with the possibility of extension reviewed at the end of the contract term. This is a hands-on, in-person role built around our studio and our installs. You'll be training alongside our Events & B2B Director, taking on the physical execution of installs, and providing critical support to our Operations team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a day-to-day point of contact for clients on assigned installs, building the same relationship-first approach our clients expect from FLOWERBX.
  • Lead freelance teams on-site during installs, including overnight and early-morning work as required by client schedules.
  • Carry out the physical aspects of install execution - transporting, staging, and placing products at client sites and FLOWERBX studios.
  • Manage logistics, inventory, and procurement of flowers and materials in line with quality, sustainability, and brand standards.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third-party suppliers to ensure every install runs seamlessly, start to finish.
  • Support the Operations team with scheduling, client information management, and administrative tasks including invoicing and budget reconciliation.
  • Train closely with our Events & B2B Director to absorb institutional knowledge of client accounts, install protocols, and studio operations.

Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
  • 3-4 years of professional experience in project and client management, ideally within luxury events, hospitality, or a related field.
  • Floral experience strongly preferred - familiarity with handling, care, and staging of fresh flowers is a significant plus.
  • Comfortable with physically demanding work, including standing installs, lifting, and irregular hours.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proactive, hands-on attitude with the flexibility to adapt to shifting install schedules.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail under time pressure.
  • A collaborative team player who works well under direction and takes initiative once trained.

Location Information
This is a full-time, in-person contract role based out of our NY studio, with regular travel to client sites for installs. This is not a remote or hybrid position - presence on-site, including for overnight and weekend installs, is a core requirement of the job.
Benefits
  • Comp: $5,750 - $6,250 / month
  • Any hours worked overnight or over the weekend for installs will be compensated with a day in lieu, to be taken at a later date.
